What did you think of Hilde's walls? I thought they were awful! My children would be seriously punished for doing that. And that grass stuff....it looked exactly like the weeds that over ran my flower bed on the south side of my house this year. The bed was nice, though.

What's the name of the guy designer who was on tonight? I didn't like his room either...the color of yellow he used was so loud. And how would you like to have a suspended table? Can you imagine trying to have a nice dinner with candles and wine and then someone bumps the table with their knee?

What did you all think?

I only got to see one during the Christmas marathon, but I was really impressed with both rooms. The two couples lived in houses with identical floorplans, and they both wanted to redo their living rooms. The designers were Hilde and the cool Asian guys whose name I can never remember. Neither designer did anything outrageous, and the rooms came out great--especially Hilde's "Victorian living room." Well, she did paint blue stripes on the hardwood floor (yikes) but other than that, the room was fab!

I didn't catch it yet.....but will see it tomorrow morning when they air it again. I will let you know what I think after that. YIKES!

I love Trading Spaces, even though I don't always love the results. Last night's male designer was Doug Wilson, and he is always doing something funky. Bright yellow paint and drapes plus zebra print fabric would not be my choice to live with on a daily basis. He was also pushing the idea of painting the homeowners' antique armoire, which they specifically said they did not want done ... that bugs me, like when Hilde painted those blue stripes on a perfectly gorgeous hardwood floor. The designers should respect the few things that the homeowners want to preserve.

I thought the bedroom last night was kind of cool. I would never want those annoying pots of live grass in my room, but I did think Hilde did a neat job with the bed headboard and lights. It was a pretty small room to work with.

The only one I'd trust in my home is Laurie Smith. She seems to always do elegant, thoughtful design that doesn't rely on funky stuff like suspended tables or weird lighting fixtures.

I saw it last night and I also thought that suspended table was weird too! I thought the same thing as you---you'd be eating and plates and glasses would be sliding all over the place!

I like Vern and Laurie the best out of all their designers. Hilde just gets on my nerves for some reason. She is always redecorating in mega-high heels. It's a wonder she hasn't fallen off a ladder by now!

Did anyone also watch Paige Davis' wedding on The Wedding Story after Trading Spaces?

I would be so unhappy if someone did that suspended tble in my house. How impractical. I wonder how long the owners left it up?

Heidi I agree with you about Laurie and I would also let Vern. Those others, I would plan on spending the next weekend fixing it.

Sue- Hilda rubs me the wrong way too! Those heels- what kind of work can she do in those! PUH-lease!

I saw part of the wedding story- it was ok.

I saw this and I have a question - they do this on Changing Rooms too - I know they really work over 2 days but why don't they change their clothes??? The designers and the host always have the EXACT same outfit on day 2 as they started with! Why??

I caught that Wedding Story for Mindy Paige or whatever she calls herself...I find her kind of irritating, the first chick was much better. But neither is as good as Carol Smiley on Changing Rooms I think.

I read about this on the TLC site a while back, actually. Because in editing they might show clips that really happened on a different day during the other day's segment, they wanted everyone to look the same for continuity. I don't see it as a big deal. I would not want to mess up more than one outfit anyway. When I painted my townhouse, I put on the same outfit whenever I was painting or doing something messy for about three days.

Ms.Chevious you're right! The old host Alex was much better-- Paige is quite annoying.

I read somewhere (I think on the Trading Spaces site) that the reason they wear the same clothes is for editing reasons. That way the tape is seamless, and they don't show tape from day #2 on day #1, etc.

OK, that makes sense - I imagined it might have something to do with editing but I didn't see the big deal since we know its 2 days, not like they are not changing because its really one day. Did anyone see that behind the scenes thing they did on Changing Rooms? It was pretty interesting to see that not only do they have to do all that DIY but that they have to do it around camera crews, cords, etc.

But yes, that bright yellow living room was a bit much and I do hate it when the designers push to paint furniture or fireplaces or stuff that is really hard to undo and the homeowners would be really upset. They often seem to want to go way out and funky to prove what hip designers they are - I don't think they really think about the fact that someone has to live with it 24/7 after they do their thing. But I guess I'm just too anal- I could never let someone loose in my house like that! That bed was really beautiful though.

I thought I was the only one in the world watching it! I have one major annoyance about the show...it is that designer, DOUG. He is so obnoxious...did you guys see the show where he almost got in a fight with the man that was helping him hang the too-big mirror over the fireplace? And the one where he kept insisting on whitewashing the fireplace? It was so awkward, and I can't believe he wasn't embarrassed for the way he was acting on television, so obviously annoyed. And that yellow show...I couldn't believe it. Yellow walls, yellow curtains...I would have died.

Hildy and those heels crack me up too

That's his name....Doug. I was talking about the show with a friend yesterday and we couldn't think of his name. I think I'll keep calling him "the floppy-haired guy", though. ;)

Yep. Doug. He CRACKS ME UP. I think I mentioned before the one where he gets so ticked off at the mother/daughter who went out on Night 1 instead of doing their homework. Boy did that make me laugh!

It seems as if Doug's strategy these days is to try to do exactly what the home owners do not want. He paints furniture that they say flat out that they do not want painted. I was going to kill him if he touched that armoire that the HO's said that they didn't want touched. I am glad that his team was firm with him on that. He really irritates me.
