I can't remember who posted the original message about cookie and brownie mixes in a jar, but I just saw a great source of recipes for mixes. The credit would have to go to Holly, she told me to look at this site. It's www.cookierecipe.com. (http://www.cookierecipe.com.) If you look at the little menu on the left side of the page, you can click on recipes in a jar. There's so many of them, too! I didn't really look at all of them, just at the list. I don't know if anyone posted this site on the other thread or not.

This was posted on the previous thread but it bears repeating! As soon as I read about the site, I went there & immediately bookmarked it. Now I have some great ideas for quick & easy gifts that can be tailor-made to suit various tastes. The site even includes a rating system for those who have tried the recipes. By the way, it's not just cooke mixes in a jar... there are all sorts of categories (no-bake, X-mas, rolled, etc.).

Actually, I posted this one http://www.geocities.com/giftsinajar/ in response to the original message. It's a good one too. Did any one go have a look?????

Deanna, I went and looked at both. I think I'll have to try this for some teacher gifts. Maybe a cocoa mix and a cookie mix.
I have a wassail recipe one son would like to make for his teachers. Anyone have an idea how to make that so it would keep all day at school? I could deliver it chilled at the end of the day and hope they are going home and not shopping and out to dinner. Would a dollar store have those little foam coolers? Last resort is to combine the sugar and spices and give them with a recipe for the wassail.

Hi Deanna,
Took a look at the 'gifts in a jar' site. Thank you for posting it. This is going to be a great resource for holiday gifts. :-))

Hi All. I was the one who posted the original request and am truly thankful for all the responses. Thank you for posting the additional websites here - I've gotten a lot of great ideas from all of them. I'm making them for the teachers and church fairs.
There was one more site posted in the original thread : soar.Berkeley.EDU/recipes/mixes/indexall.html. I have not been able to connect to that one though so I'm not sure what's there.

Beth,
I think the idea of making the sugar and spices together and giving it with the apple juice/cider (or whatever the recipes calls for) is a great idea. I was a teacher before a SAHM, and I got so much food items it was hard to use them all. Having something that I could use after the holidays would have been a great "pick me up". Just an idea.
I am also thinking of some of these "in a jar" gifts as a way to help promote a pecan sale/fundraiser. I'm going to copy some of the recipes that use pecans and promote them as good holiday gifts for those who don't bake.
kltcarley, for gifts to my kid's teachers, one thing I have been considering is giving them a coupon/certificate that they can redeem for something at a mutually agreed time (a cake, cheesecake, entree, breakfast at the school...whatever). I'm a little afraid of how that might actually turn out (can't agree, ot it has to be the same time I have 24 other things going, etc.), so I may do it for one son and try something else for the other.

Beth,
That is a cool idea. One year the PTA assigned a parent to each teacher and asked the teacher her favorite dessert. On (or near)their birthday they made thier dessert request. Some teachers were on diets and asked for fruit. Their were given beautiful fruit baskets. This birthday idea was a big hit with all the teachers, and everone anticipated their birthday and special treat.
I like the birthday idea too. I was thinking about the pumpkin scones I just posted and taking in a basket of scones in the morning...maybe combine the two ideas and let the teachers sleep in a few minutes extra and have breakfast served at school. This coming from a mom who resorted to offering her boys $1 each if they would let her sleep late on Sunday morning last week. It worked!
I also thought about putting scone mix in a jar, but it would need to be refrigerated if you used butter. Does that appeal to others?
