Hi all, I am new and was surfing some of the threads. I am in the market for a dutch oven and will buy one soon (Le Creuset brand). I am just wondering whats a good size to get. 3 1/2, 41/2 ? I would make stews, plus maybe cook chicken and beef too. I have kind of a small kitchen and would want just one that can be used for a variety of good stuff. Your suggestions would sure help me out. Im sure the color will be blue-that much I know. Than you all!!!

how many do you cook for daily? That might help make a decision. Also, scan your favorite recipes and see what most of them call for....then, personally, I'd compare price of the different sizes and see which was the better value.

I now have several, ranging from 2-8 qt, but my first was 5-qt. I would be inclined to suggest a 4-1/2 or 5 qt as a good all-pupose size. Smaller than that and you would be limited to small chickens and it could be too small for many recipes.

I agree with Beth -- 5 qt. is a good size. It is the one I most often reach for.

Thank you. I have decided on a 51/2 quart since that brand doesnt offer a 5 quart in the round shape. Now, they are all sold out. It looks like Amazon has a good deal on them, too good.
