I am bringing 2 appetizers to a 40th womens-only birthday party in a couple weeks. Any ideas on creative appetizers would be appreciated. I was thinking of the articoke dip from a couple months back -- any feedback one way of the other on that one??

Since I am a newby at the CL mag club, if your ideas go back more than a couple months, would you mind posting the recipes? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Also, I'm trying to think of something "FUN" to do at the party! Her husband is planning it and you know how they can be. Any suggestions, short of organized "games" would be appreciated also!???

These are both very easy and really handy to have - you can cut them at the party and bake - I usually yield 6 out of 1/2 english muffin:

English Crabbies

pkg. of english muffins split in half
1 small jar cheez whiz
1 can crab meat (drained and sorted through)
1/2 cup butter ( or less)
2 tsp. mayo
garlic salt/power to taste

Mix above - spread on english muffin halves - place on cookie tray and freeze - then bag for whenever - then - take out what you want - cut each half muffin into six triangles or four - bake 400 X 10 min.

They are also just good baked whole - but yield a lot when cut up for snacks.

Mary Vickers

English Muffins again split
1/2 lb. shredded cheddar cheese
6 slices bacon, fried crisp and crumbled
1 - 4 oz. pkg. slivered almonds
1 onion finely chopped
1 cup mayo
salt and pepper to taste

mix all (except muffins of course) and spread on halves and freeze as above - bag - cut up while still a little frozen - (easier to cut - same with above) and Bake 400 x 10 min.

They are both easy and really good hors d'oeuvres

Not CL recipes but may work for a crowd. These are 'Pinwheel' recipes that are simple to make.

Ham Rice Pinwheels
---------------------------------------

2 3-oz pkgs cream cheese, softened
1C cooked rice
6T black, chopped
3T onion, grated
1 1/2 tsp. horseradish
1T sweet pickle relish
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
8 thin slices ham (4" x 6")

In a medium bowl, cream cheese until fluffy. Add next 6 ingredients (rice through Worcestershire sauce; blend well.

Spread each ham slice with approximately 2 tablespoons of rice mixture. Roll tightly. Wrap individually in plastic wrap. Chill several hours (or overnight). Just before serving, cut into 1-inch pieces.
Yield: 32 pinwheels.

Party Pinwheels
------------------------------------------

2 pkgs (8-oz) cream cheese, softened
1 dry packet of ranch salad dressing mix
1/2 cup red bell pepper, minced
1/2 cup celery, minced
1/4 cup green onions, sliced
1/4 cup olives, sliced
4 10-inch Tortillas

In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and dressing mix until smooth. Add next 4 ingredients (red pepper to olives); mix well. Spread about 3/4 cup on each tortilla. Roll up tightly; wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Slice into 1/2 inch pieces.
Yield: 15 Pinwheels

Of course you can use the low fat cream cheese in these recipes. I've tried the first one and it is very good with a little kick from the horseradish. I've only heard that the second one is quite tasty.

Hope this helps. Have fun at the party and be kind to the birthday girl! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Over the past months, there have been a ton of appetizer ideas posted, some of which sound absolutely terrific. Since appetizers are "my thing," I know for a fact in the Popular Threads archive, there's a topic called "favorite appetizers." I suspect if you run a search (upper right portion of your screen next to FAQs), and type in appetizers, you'll probably get lots of leads. Normally, I'd give you the link, but for whatever reason, this site is moving at a snail's pace today. Sorry.

Good luck!

Another great thread to look at is the Girls Night Out thread from a couple of weeks ago. That had some great ideas on it as well! As for the spinach artichoke dip- I really like that one! I think I'm going to make it again for a Halloween party.
