The bicycle! According to ACE (American Council on Exercise), via a recent study conducted at San Diego State University, the bicycle crunch is tops of all ab exercises. It uses nearly 250 percent more muscle activity in the rectus abdominus region than the traditional crunch.

Also receiving high honors are hanging knee raises done with the roman chair, and floor hip lifts, and crunches done on a fit ball.

Tidbit for the day ;)

I must have been doing it wrong, but how does one hold the ball still while doing crunches on it? I bought one but took it back when I nearly killed myself.......

I stay securely on the floor for my beloved crunches now. :D

Yup, I think I read that in Prevention mag a few months ago...have incorporated it and am starting to see the "nice middle line" on my abs....slowly!!!!!! I know, my new mantra, portion control, portion control.....

Sandy,

(BTW it's difficult to type while balanced on a fit ball, but I'm wanting to accurately describe what I mean here),

The more of your back you have on the ball, the easier it is to balance. Plant your feet further out and more widely apart until you get used to it. WHOAH she says as she smacks her forehead on the keyboard tray.

Oh wait- you don't have a fitball anymore.

Well, I'd rather have you around than no you and a silly fitball!

Thanks Julie. Between last night (hardwood flooring) and today (Jeff Smith and fitball) you have me roaring. You are a joy!! :D

I love my floor crunches, and I listen to Gin, and I do it right.
