Hi Christine,

How about one or two of the following:

a banana
a bowl of cereal with low-fat or fat-free milk
a small smoothie
a cereal bar or granola bar with or without milk
a few cubes or slices of low-fat cheese with wheat crackers
a small bowl of oatmeal
a cookie and milk
yogurt
cottage cheese with or without chopped fruit
a huge salad with a touch of low-fat dressing

Hope these help.

With the holidays coming up and my personal tendenancy to binge (yesterdays spinach-artichoke dip while watching football for example), I was just wondering what you do.

Do any of you have any tricks for things to eat prior to an event, dinner, party to help you feel full so you don't totally binge at the event? You know, take the edge off so you can enjoy a little, not go overboard and not have to deal with the "why did I do that" guilt trip that leads to hours on the treadmill trying to work it off http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I've tried water - that doesn't work and an apple just seems to make me hungrier. I'm sure I could do it with a pill, but having lost 25 pounds naturally (with exercise and CL of course) I'd prefer not to go down that road.

I do know that exercise is a suppressent, but it's not always feasible to do before hand.

Thanks for your insight and help.
Christine

Try hot vegetable soup. I'm in Weight Watchers and they have an old recipe for Cabbage Soup which has V-8 juice as a base and lots of vegetables added.

Something about the hot liquid fills me up better than a cold snack.

Also if you like V-8, pour some into a mug and microwave till hot. (It makes a delicious side to a sandwich too)

Thanks you both for your ideas. I am going to print this thread and hang it on my refrigerator.

I try to live by "everything in moderation" but somethimes things are just sooooooo good I can't help myself http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Aw shucks, Christine, you're most welcome - though my ideas were really nothing special...BTW, I do like Laden's idea about the soup!!

Anyway, since you're going to hang this on your refrigerator, let me add this little corny, unoriginal, but hopefully motivational message:

GOOD LUCK and ENJOY YOURSELF!!! We're all right behind you!

I would add a graphic here for your amusement, but I don't think it would print out!

Christine.
I knew there was something I'd been dying to post, but I just couldn't figure it out. I too, need an appetite suppressant, but I don't really need to lose weight. It's just that the temp drops 2 degrees and suddenly ALL I see is food. And it's not heatlthy food in small quantities. It's large quantites of Pecan Pie, or STARCHES OF ALL KINDS...and lots and lots of cheese...MMM.
I too have a problem with water and an apple throwing me off. I'm not even sure many of those things on that list will help me, although the warm thing is definitaly an issue. I think it feels more like a meal if its hot. I wonder if oatmeal would help? I'll let you know! (GOSH I'M HUNGRY NOW!)
