Because someone revived it I have just read the wine thread. I don't think I saw mention of this so I thought you would all be interested in knowing that there is a wine store out there call popswine.com that has a great selection of wines and really great prices. I have ordered almost every bottle of wine I have consumed in the last 6 months there. Even with shipping the prices are better than I can get at the cheapest wine stores. They also send out a catalog with their "hot lists" every now and then. Also in case you didn't know a recent issue of Consumer Reports just rated a bunch of wine. Australian Bin 65 was in the top 4 of the chardonnay. Just thought I would let everyone know.

Was it really Iqueen - I just love the stuff and is 'ordering' place only for US residents?

Lanie:
I don't know if they will ship to Canada or not. Check it out on the web and good luck!

Beware, you should know that, in many states, it is a felony to ship wine to an individual. You may not no that you are in one of those states. Basically, many of the states are, unless they are wine producers, such as New York, Cal., Oregon, Washington, etc. These websites should know this, as it is them who can be penalized. Just a word to the wise.

Funny you should mention that. I think it was last week's Food Section of the LA Times dealt with that very subject, how apparently some of these companies-- and I don't bean to infer this is one of them, because it wasn't mentioned in the article-- but, some of them ARE violating this law, shipping wherever they please. (Anything for the Almighty Buck) Certainly, if you don't know if you're in one of those states, it would be a good idea to find out!
iqueen, I have a question. Am I wrong or did I just get designated Head Wino? Gee, thanks. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif I checked out your site very briefly and located a wine I've been unable to find thusfar. Wouldn't you know? Sold out.

I just went back to correct a typo. Since I'm nursing a cold right now (and yes, I've made my chicken soup) I see it's showing in my typing... "I don't bean..?" Oh, brother.

A couple of very good web sites I have used to order wine are:
eVinyard.Com - they do not ship to every state, only those where they are licensed (it looks to be around 25 or so) They have some excellent 3 for $21 and 3 for $45 specials. They offer free shipping for orders over $25. The link is http://www.evinyard.com/home/default.asp
Wine.com - I haven't used them personally, but many friends have used them and were happy with the results. The link is http://www.wine.com/

Great thread!!
Right up my alley! Thanks everyone for sharing. I can't wait to check out all the websites and sure hope that Ohio isn't one of the illegal states! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

Is it illegal to ship wine to/in New York State? Or is it okay to ship it here because there are vineyards in the state? I'm a little confused.

Beth:
Please don't tell on Pops.
Gail:
In my book you could do a lot worse than be designated the "Head Wino". Considering that I get about a case of wine every 2-3 weeks from Pops, I would probably have to vie for that title myself. What's good food without good wine though?
Thanks to everyone else for the other suggested wine sites.

I will happily step down and relinquish my crown to you-- as long as you're already royalty! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Just thought I'd let you know:
"Non-California residents are responsible for determining whether they may lawfully import alcoholic beverages into their state. We make no representation relative to your right to import wine or spirits into your state. Each state has its own rules about alcoholic beverages. You may want to check with the appropriate agency in your state or county. If, between the date of order and date of arrival, the laws of your state change so as to make it illegal for you to import your shipment, you can return the order for a full refund.
You must be at least 21 years of age to order or receive alcoholic beverages."
I took this off K&L wineries sight. You can do a search for "Wine Shipping Laws" and list your state. I know Mass. is fine with importing if you are in keeping with the above general law of 21-legal drinking age.
Some states do have dry counties, such as Alabama, so you may need to take up a temporary residence with your friend across the county line...Oops! Never mind I said that.

I can vouch for wine.com. We've used them at least three or four times over the last several months. Shipping here to Illinois is no problem (as long as someone over 21 signs for the box), but their shopping cart does ask you FIRST to verify where it's being sent.
Their prices are extremely competitive & their quite generous w/coupons for free shipping or discounts of various sorts; just subscribe to their weekly e-newsletter. Also, the reviews are in plain english, not wine-speak, which makes life a lot easier.
BethY and other friends, I too am an attorney, or at least an inactive one. I'm pretty sure TX was one of those states, but I'm also pretty sure that, as I was driving down the road in the last week or two, I heard that a court had struck down that prohibition on shipping wine into a state. Since I was driving and not devoted to the radio, I can't tell you greater details, such as whether that was a state or federal case, etc. Thought it was interesting that things might be changing.
