I'm from Balto. and miss the molassas thin cookies made by Dad's. They were called Dad's Old Fashioned Molasses cookies. Does anyone have a recipe that would be similar?Peperidge Farm has a similar but not nearly as good cookie.

I'm not familiar with the cookies you are describing. Are you looking for a spicy cookie, more molasses, something like a Moravian spice cookie? I could check a couple of books if I had a better idea of what they were.

They are very thin and about 3" across. They have a maple/molassas taste.

I have a recipe for molasses cookies that is wonderful! They are not especially thin but you should like these.

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 cup shortening, melted and cooled
1 large egg
1/4 cup unsulfured molasses
3/4 cup rolled oats

Heat oven to 375.
Sift together flour, 1 cup sugar, baking soda, salt, ginger, and cloves.

Add shortening, egg and molasses. Mix until smooth. Add oats - stir until mixed in.

Scoop with a 1-ounce ice cream scoop onto baking sheets, 3 inches apart. Place remaining sugar in small bowl. Di dthe bottom of a glass in the sugar and press down on each scoop of dough until it is about 1/2 inch thick - dipping the glass in sugar each time.

Bake until brown and crisp about 12 minutes. Transfer to wire rack to cool.

Also note I use the air cushioned baking sheets which have improved my cookie success 300 percent!!!

Sorry, I can't think of anything with maple and molasses. What if you tried something like the one above and used maple sugar for some of the sugar?
