I had the pleasure of dining at a fantastic "hole in the wall" vietnamese restaurant last weekend. Now I am totally hooked. Does anyone know where I can buy a lemongrass plant??? I know that it is probably easier to go the market and buy stalks, but having one would be way cool....Thanks!

I would think you could buy them wherever you buy other herbs to grow. Believe it or not, I usually buy my annuals at Home Depot or Lowes. I am not sure what season they grow in but I would guess Spring would be a good time to look for it. I know I have seen it before and it was probably at one of those two places I mentioned.

Dear green1:
With Spring right around the corner, you should soon be able to find a lemongrass plant at any nursery that has a decent selection of herbs. I bought a very small plant about two years ago at Home Depot and have enjoyed it a lot. Be sure to plant in full sun.
The problem is how quickly it grows! Mine has grown to over four feet tall each summer and has had to be cut back more than once each season.
I live in San Diego, so we have a long growing season and mild winters. We can pretty much use lemongrass from our plant all year around.
Be careful when handling the stalks. They have sharp edges and easily cause cuts very similar to paper cuts on your hands.
Hope you enjoy lots of delicious lemongrass-flavored dishes this summer!

I bought mine about 3 years ago at a craft fair-from a vendor from Fallbrook, Laura.
It has maybe grown 09-12 inches tall. I have kept it in an area that gets morning sun and will take your advice and move it to a full sun area to see if it should grow more. Good luck green 1!

Thanks..I will keep a look out when I visit Lowes. I don't think that I will have a problem with the full sun part. We always have sun in AZ!:D

Dear Wendy:
There are days when I wish the lemongrass was 12 inches high! LOL Do you have any recipes you would like to share?
Laura
