I left my ground nutmeg at my SIL's house over the holidays. She came up for a visit and CONVENIENTLY forgot to bring it. :) I thought about calling her to remind her.... oh well, guess I will just have to put in an order to Penzey's. And there is that unwritten rule that you HAVE to try a new spice if you are ordering, right? Well, 1 or 5... whatever!

New to me: Chesapeake Bay, Epazote, Fox Point, Northwoods Fire and Singapore.

Has anyone tried using the Epazote? I think those around me will appreciate this one

From Penseys: Epazote
Epazote is traditional for Mexican cooking, adding a sweet, mild flavor of its own to each dish. Historically, it has been used to reduce the intestinal gas that occurs with a diet rich in beans. Many recipes call for epazote, and many people swear by it. Add 1 TB. to a 2-qt. pot of chili or bean soup, or simmer with beans before adding to soup or chili. Chopped, from Mexico.

Fox Point rules!!!

We like it on chicken the best, but it also works great in mashed potatoes.

I remembered reading that in an earlier post. I am looking forward to trying it.

Northwoods Fire is my new favorite, thanks to Jewel. We put it on just about everything we want to "kick up a notch".

Epazote does HELP. It does not totally eliminate the uh.... problem, but it DOES significantly lessen it. ;)

I put in in almost all my recipes now - the ones that call for any type of chili or heat element. It is sooo good. It's FABULOUS in Bree's Lentil Soup.
