Okay, anyone catch Tasting Mexico this evening? I consider myself to be fairly open to trying new things but some of the stuff they showed early in the show looked downright disgusting! Corn fungus, beetles, some kind of flies....I have to say, I'm just not sure I'd want to try that stuff. I guess I might, just to say I did but eeeehhhhwwww.
So, how about all of you? Did you see the show? Would you try that kind of stuff? Or have any of you tried that kind of stuff already?

Corn fungus is supposed to be quite the delicacy in Mexican foods. I don't think it looks like something I would be trying anytime soon - especially since I don't even really like mushrooms. I caught the first part of the show and I couldn't believe they were eating bugs!

Yes, corn fungus, or huitlachoche, is a delicacy in authentic Mexican cuisine. I have tasted it, and it is not as strange as you would think. If I recall, it has a similar texture to regular button mushrooms, just a bit sweeter and earthier. I actually have a can of them sitting here in front of me, a gift from DH's cousin who is a chef at a great Mexican restaurant in NYC, called "Hell's Kitchen".
