Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that I bought the Cooking Light Make it Ahead supplement in the grocery store last night. I haven't read it yet, but it has about 120 recipes that you can make ahead and either refrigerate or freeze for the holidays. Also, the cover recipe looks really good--I think it's an apple cinnamon cake. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Now I have to go to the store today! I have been waiting for this supplement- although I did not think it would be available until Oct. 17th.

Is this the same one that is advertised in the Oct. issue?

Thanks for the heads-up. Just bought it. Bon Appetit Nov. issue was on the shelves to boot! So I've got some good reading ahead.

For those who have bought this already, do the recipes look familiar, like recipes from old issues, or do you think they are all new recipes?

Yep, it's the same one. I was surprised to see it also...just happened to notice it while I was in the checkout line. It made my whole night http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Yeah! I am so anxious to get this one! I actually just bought the CL Book from 99, and I couldn't believe how many great recipes there were, also I got it for a great price so that helped a lot! I will be looking for this one!

I went to Borders bookstore yesterday and found CL Annual Recipes 1999 for $5.99 - I bought it!!!

I'm still having trouble deciding on buying the Complete CL Cookbook or the CL Annual Recipes 2000. HELP!!!

cjm, I have both CL Complete and the CL Annual Recipes 2000 and I like and use both of them a lot. I got the CL Complete at a warehouse club for $22. In addition to great recipes, I've found many of the tips, how-to's, and menus in the book very useful. I got Annual Recipes 2000 so I wouldn't have to save old issues (I started subscribing in '99). I love having a year's worth of recipes in one book.

I'm so glad this board is out there. I hadn't noticed the ad for the supplement in October's issue -- this sounds like something I MUST HAVE!

Wow, $5.99 at Border's? Was it in a clearance section?

As the 2000 Annual vs. Complete Cookbook...it really depends on how long you've subscribed for. The 2000 Annual has all the recipes from 1999, whereas the Complete has the top 10% from the whole history of the magazine. If you want a representative sample, I would go for the Complete Cookbook (especially if you've already got the 1999 magazines). I have them both, but use the Complete Cookbook more often. I hope this didn't make you more confused!

The CL Annual Recipies 1999 for $5.99 was in with the bargain books at borders. I just bought it yesterday! I also got the make ahead supplement at Borders. I just started getting the CL magazine earlier this year, so now I have a lot more recipies to look through!

Back to the new issue, Make It Ahead, I just finished perusing mine. I saw some similar things, but didn't recognize a lot. What I really appreciate is that it tells you how far ahead each recipe can be made (both how much of the recipe, and how much time ahead), and whether the make ahead is freezer or fridge. I'll be using this issue a lot!

YIPPPEE, I got mine today at the grocery store. I have been flipping through and I see that there are some very tempting recipes and I agree that I like the fact that it tells you how far in advance you can make it. Lots of yummy things to try. can't wait.

I got mine today, too, and it does seem to be mostly reruns of earlier recipes. But I don't mind, because there are wonderful pictures, and anyone who's read the thread about pictures knows how much I loooove looking at pictures of food! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif Besides, it does give those "prepare ahead" instructions.

Oh, heck. Never mind the excuses. I'm just a pushover for cooking magazines and cookbooks, especially when all my friends have the same ones and we can gossip about them! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Cheers, Phoebe
