It's spring cycling training time again - for those of you who are familiar with it, we train for the MS150 ride from Houston to Austin (it's 180 miles over 2 days) to benefit Multiple Sclerosis. I'm determined this year to leverage all that training into a gorgeous beach bod by May! The normal mode is to ride a long training ride (40-75 miles) and then the whole group will head to Denny's and completely offset all the good we've done! My plan this year is to pack breakfast to take along with us and avoid the greasy spoons after the rides. So I'm looking to you for all your creative ideas on pack along breakfast foods. I'm okay with the basics - muffins, cut fruit, etc. - but hoping to get some ideas to keep us from feeling deprived. It will have to sit in the car for 3-4 hours, so I don't think anything hot is an option - but room temp or chilled is fine. It will also have to be packed up the night before because the rides start early and are usually an hour away. Thanks for your ideas everyone!

When my dh and I were cross-country skiing, we liked to pack bagel sandwiches and tortillini salad. They packed well and gave us the necessary energy boost to keep skiing.

What about breakfast wrap sandwiches. Cheese and bacon or ham and eggs and some veggies. I think you could leave them in a pyrex portable. Do you train in a park? What about using grills there if they have them available?

No grills - we generally meet/start in school or mall parking lots.

ahh...but the wrap sandwiches would still work since you can eat them cold. I like ones with a mexican flair. Refried beans, cheese, tomatos etc.

It sounds like fun. Will other people help you bring the stuff.?

OOOH you're right - mexican ones sound good. But no cold eggs!! I'm actually hoping to start a new trend and influence others in the group to do the same. But for now it's just DH and I!

I hear you, I can barely stomach them warm!
