Made this recipe last night from the October 2000 issue. It was very tasty. My only regret is that I didn't have any frozen yogurt to eat with it! My mother made the walnut apple crisp and said it was very good also. Any one else make a crisp from this article?

If you search the board for "crisp", you will find that there was a discussion about the recipes in the October issue. I made the maple-walnut and the ginger. We liked both, but the maple-walnut was REALLY good! And yes, frozen yogurt or ice cream makes it go from very good to EXCELLENT.

We ate the autumn crisp with frozen yogurt for four nights running. Finished the last of it last night, and my husband wants me to make it again tonight!! I think I will try Christina's apple tort this weekend. Has anyone tried this??

Thanks lindrusso,
I tend not to go to the threads called "october reviews" or similar as they are too long. I like when people post one recipe at a time, so I can skip threads of recipes I didn't want to try anyway. So I guess I missed that discussion, but thanks for pointing it out! KC

I agree with Kendra about posting reviews to individual recipe threads. It's much easier to find them.

I already posted these reviews, but will add them here.
I did not care for the caramel apple crisp. Though I liked the melted toffee I did not like the peanuts. They tasted weird to me, but I know some other people really liked it.
I loved the banana coconut crisp. It was really refreshing and different for a crisp. This will be a regular for me!

Just pushing this back to the top in hope of getting the receipe before I leave work this afternoon.
I made the amaretto apple crisp and loved it! There's no way you can get 9 servings out of it though...I got 5.

p.s. sorry, BernK, I'm at work so I can't post the recipe for you!

Sorry BernK, I didn't get on the board till fairly late this evening. Here's the recipe though! BTW, I made this also and it was met with rave reviews. And I agree that ice cream or frozen yogurt make it even better! I made the Amaretto Apple Crisp also and loved it. I can post that too if anyone wants it.

Spicy Autumn Crisp
Serving Size : 9
Topping:
9 gingersnap cookies (such as Nabisco)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/4 cup chilled butter or stick margarine, cut into small pieces
Filling:
3 1/2 cups chopped peeled Granny Smith apple (about 1-1/2 pounds)
3 1/2 cups coarsely chopped peeled Bartlett pear (about 1-1/2 pounds)
1/2 cup chopped pitted dates or golden raisins
1/4 cup molasses
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
Directions.
Tart apple contrasts with the sweet, deep flavors of spices and molasses. Try it with vanilla frozen yogurt.
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
2. To prepare topping, place cookies in a food processor; pulse 10 times or until coarse crumbs form to measure 1/2 cup. Combine cookie crumbs, sugars, and flour in a medium bowl; cut in the butter with a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture is crumbly.
3. To prepare filling, combine apple and remaining ingredients in a large bowl; toss well. Spoon apple mixture into an 8-inch square baking dish or a 1-1/2-quart casserole. Sprinkle with topping. Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes or until bubbly. Yield: 9 servings.
