I just made a new discovery in the Raleigh area, and thought I would pass it along to other "foodies" and/or cooks living in the Raleigh/Durham/C.Hill/Cary North Carolina area. I must say first that I have no ties to this business. As we all know, especially when we are cooking light,it is important to have the best ingredients we can find/afford, to make our meals great. I had to pass along that there is a new Italian market opened up in Raleigh called Conti's Italian Market. It is in the Mordecai neighborhood on Person Street. It opened 4 weeks ago. You may have read about it in the N&O. Well, I visited today and found a number of things I could not find anywhere else (or at least of the same quality). They have REAL proscuitto from Parma Italy. Olives that will make your eyes roll back. Homemade sausage (from another Italian market in Greensboro), fresh cheeses, etc. etc. The deli is to die for and the owners love to tell you about everything and let you taste before you buy.(that is how I ended up paying 18.95 a pound for that imported proscuitto, it took me straight back to Italy...better than anything I have found in the Triangle.) The have fresh coconut macaroons the size of baseballs, and fresh made salads (by the owners mother). Anyway, I go on, but just had to pass this find on!

Beth, Thanks for the tip. I live in Southwest Durham...where exactly is Person St.?

It's always nice to meet fellow North Carolinians http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

It's things like this that make me miss Raleigh! I moved from Raleigh to Cincinnati about 2 years ago and I really missed Raleigh grocery stores - within 3 miles of my house I had Fresh Market, Harris Teeter, Hannaford, Kroger and Winn Dixie! (Yes - I was a Yankee transplant living in North Raleigh!) We're getting a little better here - Wild Oats just came to town, but it's still not the same.

I forwarded the info about Conti's market to my aunt who lives there. I'm sure she'll be visiting it!

JodiL - if I am remembering correctly - Person street is just northeast of downtown.

Hmmm. I am a terrible direction giver, especially if the person doesn't really know the area. For instance, if you knew downtown Raleigh, I would say, it is right across the street from the Krispy Kreme. From Durham, you would take 40, to Wade Ave. Then take Wade all the way til it deadends on Capital going downtown. Get off Capital pretty quickly onto Peace Street and take a left at the bottom of the exit. You will pass Peace College on your left and the state govt. complex to your right. When you get to a light at at deadend with a huge Krispy Kreme on your left (Hopefully, without the "Hot donuts NOW" sign on!). That is Person Street. Take a left, the grocery is on your right. There is a street right past it, you can turn there and park on the street.

Thanks, guys. I know where Peace Street is (Cameron Village!), so I think I can find Conti's. I'll have to go next weekend. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
