This was supposed to be a dessert, but I made it as a side dish (without the ice cream-of course). I thought it would be a good way to get more fruit in our diet. Well, it was only so-so. Not too sweet and easy to make, but it just didn't bowl me over.

Bummer! And I thought this looked really good. Maybe it needs the ice cream to be really good?! :D

We had this tonight for dessert along with some homemade rum raisin ice cream and biscotti(the lemon biscotti with lemon drizzle and this months white chocolate-lemon, but I used semisweet chocolate and orange which were, by the way, delicious, but a little too heavy on the chips. Next time I will cut back on the amt. of chips to 3/4c. instead of 1 1/4c.) Anyway, back to the compote. It was simple to make, not too sweet, and we thought it was a perfect end to our meal(2 homemade pastas, 3 toppings, bread, salad you get the picture...). I can see eating it plain as a side dish, it might be kind of boring, but with a little ice cream for dessert it was delightful.

I made this today for supper club and it was quite a hit. I cut the sugar down to 2T b/c I accidentally bought applesauce w/sugar. I also cut the port by about 1T. (I'm not too keen on port). I served it w/vanilla yogurt, which I liked. Most others chose to eat it w/o the yogurt topping. I will definitely make it again!
