My adorable little kitty comes sauntering into the room and makes this noise, like "look at me, Mommy. Help."

I look at his paw and it has this white stuff all over it like he has gotten into some paint. The I smelled it and YUCK it is minty - the scent I detest more than anything. I can't stand mint gum and of course, DH chews it constantly. He is gonna' be in BIG trouble about this one - I don't know where he left it but Earl Grey found it worthy of playing with.

I tried picking it out but that hasn't proven too effective and I am scared about him digesting it. There isn't *that* much, but it can't be healthy. [Although, I know is better than the sewing needle he ingested this summer (which had to be surgically removed - but I digress).]

Any tips for getting gum out of fur?

Peanut butter! At least it works for getting gum out of hair, so I imagine it would also work for fur. Something in the peanut butter breaks up the composition of the gum and you should be able to just comb it out. I learned this the hard way in high school when kids I was babysitting for stuck gum in my hair!

Is your kitty's name Earl Grey? How funny - DH and I have always joked that when we eventually get another cat, he will be gray and we'll name him Earl. :)

Doesn't cooking oil work too? Can't remember...

Ice usually works for me, but I don't know if your kitty will like that. But off of clothes, out of hair, off the floor, rubbing an ice cube on it for a few seconds hardens it up and it pops right off.

Good luck!

Miracle Whip! :D :D

I think Kelly Kerans has some extra jars...

I do hope you get it out. I think anything that has some oil in it will work.

I was going to suggest mayonnaise. That's what our vet suggested when we called to find out how to get pitch out of the dogs' fur.

DH suggests peanut butter - he says that's what his mom used on him when he was a kid to get gum out of his hair.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I got most of it out by hand - I think I am going to scour the pantry and see what we've got.

Yes, Kathryn, he is an all-grey kitty named Earl. How funny that we weren't the only ones to think of that. People seem to get a real kick out of his name. We usually just call him Earl, though.

I had the same reply when I read the subject! Too funny, but I guess we can laugh because it is not our husband who is in trouble ;)
