View Full Version : Updating threads?

For the past week or so, whenever I pull up the main thread list of any given board or the home list of the boards, the times that the threads were last updated are wrong. It will show a post from a few days ago as being the most recent one. If I hit refresh, it shows the correct information. I have had a similar problem with my PMs. Could this just be my computer, or are other people experiencing this, too? It is sort of frustrating!

Hi Laura,

It could be because your computer stores those pages in its memory and therefore they don't get "refreshed."

If you bookmark the site, use http://www.cookinglight.com/vbb/index.php and then enter the Great Food board (or other board) manually.

That may solve your problem.

Thanks for responding, Jennifer. I am still really confused and annoyed by this little quirk (and it could be totally on my end, I have no idea). I do have the site bookmarked and always enter through my bookmark, not through the CL main web page. Also, I navigate through the pages using the links within the boards, and this happens through any and all of those links.

An example of what is happening to me: I will be reading a thread on the Other Stuff board (this happens to me on all of the boards and the home page, though) and I will reach the end and use the "hop to" button to go back to the board I was reading or to another board. When the main page of the board comes up, it will say that the last post was made on 1-24-02 at 3:45 pm even though it is 2-01-02. At any given time it will say that the last post was made earlier that day (when really it was made a few minutes ago) or some pervious day. I am finding that I have to refresh almost EVERY time I enter a new page to see when the last post really occured. I guess it has been a week or more now and I am really losing patience with it.

Does this sound like this is my computer?? Is there something I can do to make it stop?

Any of you reading this, have you experienced this at all? Please respond if you have. It's driving me crazy!!

What type browswer are you using (Internet Explorer, Netscape, AOL, etc)?

Let me know and we'll try changing your "history" and "cache" options.

Hi Laura,

Give this a shot and see how it works.

In Internet Explorer, click on Tools>Internet Options.

In the window that comes up, under "General" click on "Settings."

Where it says "Check for newer versions of stored pages" -- make that setting "Every visit to the page."

Also, under General, click "Empty" by "Temporary Internet Files."

See if that works.

Thank you so much Jennifer, but it did not work. :( I followed your advice this morning, and my problems persisted. I waited to post about it until I got home and checked again after my computer had been turned off and back on. Still having the problem. Any other thoughts? I guess I'll just keep hitting refresh for now!
