My CL Supper Group is planning a Super Bowl Tailgate Theme Party for the Super Bowl. The hostess thought it might be fun to have a betting pool but she can't remember how they work. I am usually more interested in the food than the football game, so I don't have much experience at organizing these things either. She asked me to post the question on this BB, because she knows what a wealth of information there is here. (I'm always bragging about you guys at our dinners!!:D )
So.... would someone be so kind as to explain how to set one of these things up? I believe you make a chart with numbers on the "x" and "y" axis and then people bet on them. Since it isn't a huge group of people, can you still do it? Are there different rules for smaller groups? Do you cash out after every quarter or just at the end of the game? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

You set up a grid 10 blocks wide by 10 blocks long. Put the team names on the outside of the blocks one across the top and one down the left hand side. Don't write anything in the first row across the top or the most left hand row of blocks, you will need these empty to fill in the #;s 0-9 later. Fill in (or more approp. sell the squares and right they buyers namein the blocks) You can sell them for whatever amount you want probably $.25 would be good to make sure you fill in the squares otherwise it won't work. Unless your big betters and can afford more, but we are talking 100 spaces. Once all the spaces are full pull the #'s out of a hat 2x and fill in the top row and left hand row. This makes it a little more fair for everyone. Otherwise all the good #'s are picked first and it is hard to sell the rest of the squares. From there you pay out however you want. You can pay 25% of total collected at each quarter or some people break it up differently to pay more at the 1/2 and final score. IE 1st Qtr pay 20% 2nd Qtr 30% 3rd Qtr 20% 4th Qtr 30%.
Does that make sense?

Peggy,
Peggy C put it as well as I could have.
If you don't have a lot of bettors you could also do only 1 row, 0-9. This means you can only have 10 people. Write down names, draw them out of a hat and write down the names next to the number. They can pay a little more and go with the score combined at half time and the end.
I hope this makes sense

Perhaps I missed it, but they way I have seen who gets the money is by the last digit of the score at each interval. As an example, if the score at the end of the first quarter is Rams 21, Patriots 3, the person with the 1 on the Rams side and the 3 on the Patriots side would win the predetermined percentage... and so on each quarter. Thank you all for the responses! I am now going to forward this thread to our hostess. I know she will appreciate all of your input.
