Would anyone have any idea where I could purchase cod tongues? I've tried every fish monger in my area and searched the internet--no luck.
If you know of any place, do share :D
(i'll take canned, frozen, etc.....whatever)
TIA

I've heard of them but never had them. They sound like a local delicacy.

Ganache!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW....I searched and searched and couldn't find ANYTHING like that site....(feeling now as a failed librarian unable to answer her own reference question :o :o :( :( ).....how did you locate this site???!!!!!!!!

I had my one and only experience eating Cod tongues when DH and I motorcycled to and through Nova Scotia and Newfoundland in june/july. They are amazingly NOT eeeeeeewwwwwww.
They pan saute/fry them with a dusting of flour. They are quite rich tasting, though I've been unable to locate calorie/nutrition info on them to date.
I thought I would hate snails and like those....so I never scoff at "new" food anymore. ;)

THanks again!!!!

Aside from the general 'EEEEEWW' factor, I'm sitting here trying to figure out how your basic chef was one day looking at the cod he was filleting, saw the fish's tongue there in that gaping dead mouth and said "Hmmmm...wonder how that would taste dusted with flour and pan fried??":eek::eek:

Aren't there certain parts of an animal that should be considered off limits!??? I saw Chicken Feet in the grocery store yesterday! What does one do with Chicken Feet!! ACK!

LOL, Jewel! I've wondered the same thing before with ingredients I've had to buy. One of DH's favorite Chinese dishes that I make calls for red fermented tofu. I often wonder what possessed someone years ago to think that the nasty old tofu that had been sitting out somewhere for months and had fermented would be good to throw on some pork! And that it would look more appetizing if they dyed it red first!

Necessity is the mother of invention and all that. The first Newfoundlanders had to make due with very little and learned quickly to waste nothing. One of the benefits to us? Cod tongues are absolutely delicious.:D

How about pickled pigs feet...Don't they just look so incredibly appetizing floating in water within a very large jar???? I don't know if anyone even watches Fear Factor on NBC, but this past Monday one of the stunts they had to do was to eat pig rectum....I'd take yummy cod tongue any ol' day.

That was NASTY. My DH has always said he could go on that show and win in a heartbeat -- says he'd be willing to try anything once -- but he's never seen any of the episodes where they eat nasty stuff. He almost lost his dinner just sitting on the couch watching that episode! I knew he couldn't do it. For that matter, who would want to??

Cod tongues sound great. We do similar things around here with halibut cheeks.

I do want to try the chicken feet. Our best dim sum places do a brisk business in them. Maybe Jewel will join me...?

Besides, do you think the French liked eating pancreas and thyroids....but now they are delicacies!

Actually, the less anyone else is inclined to want them---the more for me!!!!:D :D

Soup! Yum. They're mostly cartilage, hence rather crunchy.

And now I want to try cod tongues. :)
