Of course, those iced in may not have power in their homes to even be on the computer!
We are iced in - kids are off from school - but we still have power. Some areas around us do not, so I'm hoping ours stays on!
The freezing precip has let up for the moment, so maybe the worst is over. Now we just have to keep those winds down so that the frozen trees and power lines don't get damaged any more!
It's times like these that I'm especially glad to have a fireplace and a gas stove (not to mention a well-stocked freezer and pantry) - just in case!
How's everyone else doing??? Keep warm! :)

Not iced in yet. Ask me later this evening and tomorrow. Your storm is headed our way. 8+ inches of snow mixed with sleet in the forecast.
Stay warm everyone.

It's rainy here in PA and DH is travelling back from a business trip today. He's on a flight right now, because we know that bad weather in one major hub will cause a lot of air traffic problems. I'm glad he's on his way home!!

No ice here except for the roads (Althoug it hasn't taken them long to melt since the sun is out). We got about an 1 inch of snow here. I know it doesn't sound like much (it isn't) but this is a big deal in New Mexico. Usually it stays in the mountains but it came to the city late yesterday afternoon and into the night. In Albuquerque everything is on a two hour delay but much of the northern part of the state is shut down. They got a lillte bit morre snow. Back to work as usual.

Not iced in, but SNOWED in!! We got like 8 inches overnight. Couldn't go to work this morning (DARN! :D ). I haven't had a day to just sit on the BB in a LONG time!
The dogs are enjoying romping around in it, and my kind neighbor already came by with the snow blower and did the front walk for us, so I have to shovel the back walk/deck in a little while, but I don't mind. It's good exercise and the dogs are out there with me to keep me company.
The only thing I didn't like, was our satellite dish had snow all over it and it was blocking the signal, so I had to drag the 15 foot ladder out of the garage and carry it through the unshoveled back yard, try to prop it up in the snow so it was stable, and then I climbed up to nearly the roof and used a long handled broom to clean off the dish. I was pretty scared - I thought for sure the ladder would tip over. But I managed. (Of course, then I had to schlepp the darn thing back to the garage by myself - those ladders are long and HEAVY!!). And to top it off, there isn't even anything good on TV!!
But I sure do like snow days! :D

It's 26 degrees right now, and we are all freaking out because it's soooo warm  !
The winter has been a confusing one here... The past month we have fluctuated from -10 degrees and lower, for 4 days straight (with snowing, & "hurricane winds" in between), to 26 degrees now.
It has been an unusual past month weather-wize, for everyone across the U.S. that I have talked to. Hang in there, and be sure to dress for the weather and be safe. Be careful when driving-the road conditions can change within 10-20 min.
One minute we are ice-skating--- the next, some idiots are driving like it's summer .. During bad weather IMO-If you don't HAVE to drive, DON'T!.. Wear your seatbelt everytime you sit in the car, no matter which seat u r in, and be safe.
I remember when my kids were much younger, they would wake up early on school-days to check the weather (when it was bad), hoping school was closed....No such luck most of the time..;) Zinnia

Iced in here in NY. Most schools are closed. When they decided to close, it hadn't even started raining yet. It finally started around 10am- by that time it would have been a mess trying to send everyone from school.

Cedar Rapids, Iowa received about 3-4 inches of snow last night. Some school districts closed completely and some opened late. The one I have to watch opted to open late, so I had to come into work  If the school district is closed, than I don't have to attempt coming into work. I haven't seen snow in 17 yrs, so this is like a new experience for me. Sure does look pretty though!

It's just started here in Southeastern MA. I took the dog out the back door and the deck and steps are iced, although it's not quite frozen. I'm home from work today with my DS (8 1/2) who of course only want to play video games. He has strep and an ear infection. Off to the kitchen for me! I'm going to try the Ham and White Bean Soup (Jan '02) and the Carmelized Onion Chicken. :D

Hmm, I always thought Iowa got some snow. Well, you learn something new every day.
Snow is only pretty when it first falls. Then it gets ugly really fast. But I can say that, having grown up in Ontario.

Glad to hear that things aren't too terrible for most of you.
I was out shoveling the rain/sleet/slush mess off our driveway (before it freezes into a skating rink) and it was both pretty and eery outside. Everything is covered in ice, so it's very pretty, but it's strange when the trees RATTLE when the wind blows! And then as I'm shoveling away, I kept hearing these "ccccrrrrraaaaccckkks" as branches in neighboring yards were coming crashing to the ground! Yikes! The boys and I took a walk around the block to survey the damage. Almost everyone has something down, but most of it looks fairly harmless. I just hope the winds stay calm and we don't get much more damage.
I've been wanting to bake or cook, but I'm afraid the ice will cause another outage - there have been outages all over and our lights keep flickering. Our cable's been out all day, but like Grace said, not much on anyway!
Since we're not likely to get out to the Y (the roads aren't bad, but I don't want to have to clean more ice off the car), shoveling will have to be my exercise for today! It was very invigorating, but now I'm ready for a nap!
How many more days until spring???? :D
No school here today in NW In. Power outages due to the freezing rain. It really is very pretty, but I want it gone tomorrow. Ha! Our first storm this winter and I want it gone. I think there are only 40 something school days till spring break. Can't wait. Vicky

What's wrong with this picture?
Iowa: Snowed in
Illinois: Snowed in
Indiana: Iced In
Ohio: Sitting in a t-shirt
Pennsylvania: Snowed in
New York: Snowed In.
Did mother Nature and Jack Frost skip a state? Our offices are roasting because it's 60-something outside in JANUARY. It's been raining all day, and we had a fair bit of fog this morning, but nothing cold has even come close.
This is just so odd ...

Snow? Ice?? Try nearly 80 degrees...in January!!!! Go away!! It's too early. Our temps are supposed to drop to sort of normal winter temps (for our area) starting tomorrow. I can't wait. I'm not quite ready for summer to get here when we haven't even had spring!!
PS...my daffodils are in full bloom.

As I predicted earlier, I am now snowed in. It's been falling pretty hard for the last couple hours. I just went in the backyard to play ball with the dog, and I landed smack on my butt. There was a sheet of ice under the snow and I crashed hard. I am now sitting here aching. (ok, I'm done whining now).
I hope DH is able to make it home from work OK. He's got about a 25 mile commute. Let's hope the plows are keeping the Turnpike clear.
Just saw on the weather that it is 72 in Pittsburgh! Issaih and Melman I envy your weather. My bulbs were sprouting last week, and now, the poor little things have been slapped in the face by the snow and ice. Grace, in NW In we only got about 4-5 inches of snow. Streets are clear here. Vicky

No ice, but a whole lot of rain here in eastern Missouri. I have heard that Kansas City is a mess with ice. I just got back from traveling for about 30 miles on the interstate that runs between St. Louis and Kansas City and saw around 50 of those trucks they use to string power lines from 3 different companies and more trucks towing generators, all headed toward Kansas City. If nothing else, I can attest to the fact that help is on the way.

only 3-4 inches....Illinois got all my snow!!:( :( :D
Sleety snow/ice (snice?) coming down 8 miles north of Boston. My boss let us leave early because folks were getting worried about the weather -- DH just arrived home from Lowell, Mass, said the ride down was pretty bad.
We live atop a high, steep hill, which the town is usually good about plowing -- but we're worried that it will turn into a huge sheet of ice tonight. DH said it was already pretty slick when he came home. I usually wouldn't mind taking a "snow day" from work, but I have two very imporant meetings scheduled for tomorrow, and if I miss them, it's going to be way too crazy and stressful meeting my next set of deadlines.
My indoor/outdoor thermometer says it's 28.9 degrees at the moment. On Tuesday, I wore a t-shirt all day, and the temp topped 60. This is crazy!
Helene
We didn't get any of the snow or ice they were calling for, and it's only drizzling, and in the 40s. Tomorrow morning it's supposed to be in the 60s!
DH just got home from Detroit, after trying for a day and a 1/2! I hope that weather isn't coming this way!
