View Full Version : ooey gooey brownies - september 2000 issue
My step daughter and I made these brownies this past weekend. We both took one bite and spit it out. Even my husband, who eats anything, was NOT impressed. It's such a drag to buy all the ingredients for a recipe and end up throwing it away. Just wanted to pass this along before someone else wasted their time.

I made these last week and they were a big hit. At first my husband said they just seemed like regular old brownies with junk on top - i.e. nothing special. The next day they tasted better and he really liked them, especially the bit of peanut butter. Sorry to hear you didn't like them.

I was with you, Ody. These were gross to me too. They tasted fake and too sweet - like store bought stuff, not homemade. There was a thread a long time ago about these where people gave opinions both ways - you might want to read that. Anyway, it is a bummer when you spend the time making something and it turns out awful. But, I must say, in almost 10 years of cooking from CL, that has happened to me less than a handful of times, so I'd say that the odds of a CL recipe being good is really, really good!

I agree with Kendra on the next day thing. I didn't care for the brownies the day I make them, but the next day they did taste better. Still, I doubt if I will ever make them again. I wonder if different brands of "fluff" caused all the differences in opinions I've seen on the board.

I've made 5-6 brownie recipes from Cl over the last 6 months and EVERYONE at work, my boyfriend, etc said these were the best ever! I'm definately not a marshmallow cream fan (this was the first time I'd ever bought the stuff) but I thought they were great! I'd encourage everyone to try these for themselves!

I made these over the weekend for an event that had quite a number of people eating them. I had LOTS of good comments about them including one girl whose hubby sent her over to ask for the recipe!!!
For what it's worth, I used Marshmallow Creme...not Fluff. I not sure what kind of difference there might be in the two items but maybe that's why some people are having less than desirable results.

I tried this brownie recipe and loved it--so did my husband, and my brother's girlfriend, but my brother didn't. I guess it's just a question of taste...
On another note, the first time I made this recipe I was reduced to TEARS (OK, it had been a long day already) because the recipe said to "lightly flour hands" and then press part of the batter into a greased pan. This proved absolutely IMPOSSIBLE for me to do--the batter was too sticky to stay in the pan and I had to have my husband scrape it off my hands! However, I found that a spatula with cooking spray on it did the job in 30 seconds flat. Now why wasn't that on the recipe to begin with? (I'm a novice, so I take my recipes very literally!) http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

That reminds me.....when I made the brownies on Friday afternoon, I was at the "lightly flour hands and press batter into pan" when the phone rings. I managed to get the phone to my ear only to hear: telemarketer!!! ARRGHH!!
Yes, he survived with his ear intact....but only because I was in a hurry and didn't have time to yell at him!! :-) How *DO* they always pick the absolute worse time to call.

My Mother was having friends over for coffee and dessert and was looking for a new recipe to try so I gave her CL's ooey gooey brownie recipe. Good thing she was making 2 desserts for the ooey gooey looked ooey pewy! She tossed it out before the guest arrived and just served her always wonderful apple pie.

I made this recipe incorrectly--but it turned out great...musta done something wrong--I mean right--I'm confused!
I forgot to add the egg white to the chocolate batter. Let me just say that the batter was so stiff I had to hold my mixer with my other hand to keep the batter from turning the mixer! But it patted into the pan just fine and the brownies tasted great. Maybe I'll just make them this way next time too...makes it safer to eat the batter http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif
These are definitely a repeater.
