Hello!

My sister made an angel food cake in my "non stick" tube pan. The cake turned out great, but was slightly burnt on the bottom and sides-the burnt part stuck to the "non stick" pan. After removing what I could, a film of burnt residue is left on the pan. I am afraid to scrub it too hard for fear of ruining the finish.

Do any of you have any suggestions? I would hate to throw it away!

Thanks!

Lisa

Have you tried to contact the manufacturer of the pan? Many of the larger companies have 800 numbers or websites. They might be able to tell you what to do or whether something suggested here could harm the finish.

I have some cookware (not nonstick) that came with instructions for removing burnt food from the bottom, which I had to try when a pan of popcorn got cooked on too high heat. It was for stovetop, but it did loosen the black crust and an adaptation might work for your pan. If you don't get ideas specific to nonstick, try this:

Cover the bottom of the pan with at least an inch of boiling water above the burned cake. Add a tsp or so of baking soda. The stovetop instructions ahd you boil the water for a minute, then let sit. If the boiling water doesn't work, try putting the pan into a hot oven for a few minutes, but not long enough to let the water evaporate below the burnt food. You might have to do this 2 or 3 times if the crust is fairly heavy. Hope it helps.

Cream of Tartar mixed with vinegar is supposed to remove burnt food easily, if you would like to give that a try before you throw it out.

Hope it helps!!

Try Goo-gone. Squirt some on (it's harmless citric acid), and let it sit for awhile, and then scrub it gently and see if that works. It has helped some of my "nonstick" pans when they get that sticky residue from Pam spray.

Thanks for your suggestions! I ended up getting it clean by gently scrubbing with a Brillo pad-seemed to do the trick without scratching the pan.

I'll keep your suggestions in mind for the future though!
