On the old board, I remember reading a debate about this. Someone (I was new to CL then) had made it and it wasn't well received by her husband at all. Speaking as a half-Cuban, the recipe seems harmless enough to me, although the beef broth seems a little weird. Perhaps they did this to compensate for oil, because a lot of Cuban recipes tend to go pretty heavy on the oil, building sofritos of onion, garlic, peppers and spices, frying them and adding them in-- plus browning ingredients in oil as well. Perhaps it was the comino and plantain flavor mix which struck her husband as odd-- I'm honestly not sure.

If it interests you, go for it. After all, everyone's tastes are different. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I made this earlier this past summer. The flavor of the stew itsself was quite delicious, but the plantains I used could have been slightly riper. So overall we liked it and I would repeat it but with a more yellow plantain next time. Mine was more potato like than sweet!
