Hazelnuts/Filberts are the state nut of Minnesota-if you know someone ther they could probably send them to you.

I wanted to make the Hazelnut Bread that is in the current Make it Ahead mangazine, but can't find this nut in any of the major grocery stores here. Is this a US name? Sometimes I discover that there are US terms for things we have different names for in Canada. For example, I couldn't figure out what the heck "ground round" was until I clued in that it was "ground beef" in Canada.
Anyways, if you know what these nuts look like, maybe I'll figure it out.
Thanks.

Hazelnuts are also known as Filberts... does that sound more familiar?

I don't think hazelnut is a US name- I've been to Europe, and that's what they call it there. Its a pretty common nut, strange that you can't find it....

PENNYNIKKEL,
Hazlenuts are usually sold dried, but sometimes you can find fresh ones. Also, they're sometimes called filberts.
I wanted to point something out about ground round, too, just in case you don't know already. Ground round is ground beef, but contains much less fat than regular. In the states, ground beef contains the most fat, ground chuck is leaner, and ground round is leaner still.
I hope some of this helps with your grocery shopping!

Pennynikkel-
I also remember from time I spent in France that the hazelnuts are "noisettes" in French--I don't know if the stores in Canada have French names or not for food but maybe this will help too!

Thank you for all your help. Filberts definitely ring a bell.
I will be making it this week.
Thanks for your help.
