In my ever so humble opponion I do not entirely agree with the 3 choices. I did like the Sichuan Stir fry, as did my family. The asparagus is tasty. But the Pork Loin just seem to be missing a beat, we prepared this dish last night, it came out very tender. But lacking in flavor and I even used my good Chard. My hubbie kept saying I think it's missing something. We have a habit of cooking food with bold flavors. We kept wanting to add some herbs or maybe some white pepper, which we use a ton of. Does anyone out there agree?

can't see this thread??
I haven't tried that recipe, linda, so I can't help you out. But was I the only person who thought this was a bit of a cheater article for CL? I already BOUGHT all the magazines last year...I buy the new ones to get NEW recipes!! It's nice for them to point out their favourites, but I would have much preferred new recipes. I don't think I've tried a single one of the recipes they chose...although I will definitely try the asparagus (I had already marked it from when it originally ran, but asparagus has been so expensive!). The stir-fry looks great, but it's not quite light enough for me (13 WW pts!!! ). I liked the stories that accompanied each recipe, but I'm disappointed they filled a whole article with recipes I already had. I feel kind of cheated, especially after waiting extra-long for this issue. Oh well, maybe it's just me!

No, it's not just you, Jen. I was really annoyed with that "best of last year" article -- as a matter of fact, I really dislike the "Back to the Best" feature for the same reason.
I think CL is trying to get too much mileage out of its old recipes -- first, they publish the magazine. Then, they offer the annual for $30-odd dollars each year. THEN, you go to the newstand, and they're selling "Best of Cooking Light 3" for $10 or so -- which is the same recipes from the annual, and the past year's magazines.
THEN, they reprint 10 or so recipes from last year in one of the first issues of this year. And, the back page every month is an old recipe. They're a big national magazine, owned by a major communications corporation, with an experienced and talented staff. Why can't they churn out a few new recipes?
OK, rant over. Sorry, Linda, for "hijacking" your thread.

While they did duplicate the recipes, IMHO, the article was more about how the Test Kitchen staff rates the recipes than them skimping on new recipes. Also, they are always trying to attract new subscribers, so how better than to showcase last year's best! I think on another thread someone had mentioned that they were interested in one of the recipes that wasn't published in the March issue since it had just been in November or December's; she was dissappointed that she hadn't gotten those issues.

Well now that you've expressed yourself, I'll jump back in. I totally agree, I don't need or understand why they would reprint recipes from Just last year! I could see bringing one back from 3 to 5 years ago. You know ones you haven't seen in awhile. Last year is alittle too soon to be reprinting. Or how about asking the readers for their favorites and making it a seasonal thing, since we all experinece the seasons differently. Does this make since, help.
anyways thank for the input!!

I have to admit I was just a little irked by this article. Too much space reprinting recent recipes. I enjoyed learning how the test kitchen develops and rates recipes, though.
The Quick Vegetarian Chili with Avocado Salsa was not a 3 at my house, however... it was bland, the salsa was bland, and we thought there was too much barley. Darcy's Chili was far better, IMO.
Oh well... there are plenty of other CL recipes I love! :)
