I'm making a chili that calls for green chilis and I don't know where to find them in the grocery store, can anyone help?
Also could I maybe substitute green chilis for jalapenos? Or would the difference be too much?

Andrea,I often buy the already chopped green chilis that come in the can. They are sweeter and not at all like jalapenos, although I use jalapenos in my chili also.
Andrea how in the world were you able to post this new topic? I have been trying to post one on and off for a few hours. Everything looks good, I am even able to select "submit now" and it will bring me back to the main post area, but my post has disappeared into cyberspace.

Green chillis are found with the mexican foods in your grocery store, like where you would find refried beans. They are much different then jalapenos, if anything I would replace them with well cooked bell peppers but hopefully now you will find them http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Hey Friends!!
I'm with you on not even being able to respond to other's q's vs my own new post that ..... disappeared!!
Anyhow, green chilis are so much lighter than japs. Don't ever swap them out. Green chilis are yummy though. Check out a good recipe using them under the thread "shrimp pizza", I've listed a good shrimp appetizer and a good pesto to use. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif If you want it hotter or spicier make sure you add heat!!

Is the recipe calling for fresh or canned?
If fresh, some grocery stores carry an assortment of chilies, a few that would work are Anaheims and Poblanos. Both are fairly mild. Sometimes the Poblanos can get a little spicy.
Hope this helps,
Wienie
