I'm jumping on the bandwagon and making the Sichuan chicken stir fry peanut thing for dinner tonight too, but my husband can not tolerate worcestershire sauce (let's just say that he needs to be within 5 feet of a restroom after eating it). He's got all these weird food allergies that cause him major problems. I know, he's a wimp! Anyway, is there anything I can sub. for the W. sauce? The recipe actually calls for Chinese black vinegar, but I'm pretty sure my grocery store won't have the either. Would I notice if I just left it out?

Cook's Thesaurus suggests balsamic vinegar among others.

Here's the link to suggested substitutions from Cook's Thesaurus:

If it's the anchovies he's allergic to, Annie's brand of Worst. sauce now makes it vegetarian (without anchovies)...

I've used a combo of soy sauce, a splash of vinegar and pepper before that worked amazingly well.
