View Full Version : CL Cover Survey??

I was just at the WW site, and clicked back to the CL site - a dreaded pop-up window appeared, and before I had a chance to click it off, I noticed it was a survey from CL, asking my opinions about potential covers for future issues.
I thought it was pretty timely, since the discussion that just happened regarding the March issue.
Has anyone else seen it?

Yes, I took the survey. It will be interesting to see what they do with the information. And it would definitely be interesting to know whether the survey was prompted in any way by the recent BB debate about the country fried steak cover! :)
I won't give too much away, but they basically show you options for the cover of the magazine and ask you which you like better and why. It took me just a few minutes.

Based on your thread I went looking for it - I usually skip the home page and go directly to the BB.
I completed the survey, too. I wonder if CL plans to let us in on the results. Maelynn, what's the plan? I'm sure we'd all like to know the breakdown.

Very interesting. I just completed it myself! Can't wait for those two chocolate cakes!

Me too, Ralph!!! :D
I just want to know why my yearly household income is pertinent in this type of thing?? (No, I didn't answer.)

Because the potential advertisers want to know who the "typcial" reader is. As much as CL wants to provide great recipes for us readers, it's real goal is to make as much money as they can, and they can do a better job of selling advertising when they know who the target audience is. Sad, but true.
I just took the survey too. I love the danish pastry they showed. I hope they at least give that recipe, even if they don't use it as a cover!

It's a good thing they didn't ask how often we visit the BB, but rather how often we visit the CL site. "Daily" would have not narrowed it down enough. LOL:)

CL seems to pay a lot of attention to their cover art; I remember once last year or even the year before, there was a little survey on the home page, and when we visited Birmingham in June, we must have spent a half hour or more surveying the covers from the past year and saying what we liked/disliked about them. It was really interesting to hear what everyone said. We even got into things like the tag lines on the bottom of each cover (whether they appealed to us or not), and the fonts used, etc.

I just took the survey too. That banana-chocolate pie sure looked yummy, huh? The grilled steak was pretty good too!
That molasses cookie cover did nothing for me. I thought it was really blah, with not a lot of color. Of course, I'm probably biased, because I don't like molasses cookies to begin with. :)

Okay I must be slow today but I couldn't find the Survey on the main page. I clicked on the pop up add and it took me to "ordering a subscription to CL."
I wanted to get a glimpse of the possible future covers but I can't find it, please help!
Thanks,
Christine

Twice it froze up on me and wouldn't let me past question 8 but I tried another browser and that worked - how fun! LOVE that caramel cake!
Did anyone notice the repeats in the Autumn selections - A very similar Molasses cookies cover appeared in Oct. 96 (though better done than this one) and the black bottom pie from within the past 2 years (Nov. 1999? maybe?) looked really similar to the pie cover. Seems like they could come up with non-repeated ideas - but everything did look really yummy (except for that grilled stuff - what was that??)

I'm jealous... apparently, the opinions of those under 25 are not what they are looking for. I selected my age (barely under 25!) and they said "thank you for taking the survey" and that was it! Maybe I did something wrong, but I don't think so.
I want to see the yummy food!
Oh, well.
Christine- I had to go in and out of the site about 3 times before I got the survey pop-up screen. The first two times I also got the subscription window instead. Keep trying!

I wish the survey would have had a comments section. I usually don't base my buying decisions on the cover picture of a mag, sure I'll look twice if the picture strikes me, but I always browse the mag first prior to purchasing. Why pay the $$ for one small article or a single recipe? Same for cookbooks, but that's just me:D

Anne I always do the same thing (browse before I buy) but more often than not it's the cover that makes me decide whether to browse or not, especially if it's a magazine I don't buy regularly.
Funny how all of our tastes are different. I liked the Molasses cookie cover b/c I love molasses cookies and I thought it just said "autumn" to me. Didn't care for the grilled cover, b/c everything was the same color and nothing really "popped" out at me.

I'm a sucker for a good, gooey dessert on the cover. That's what would make me pick up the magazine and check it out. Either that or an awesome pasta dish. I'm not much on a big plate of meat. Since I have a subscription, I don't care much about the picture on the cover, though.

It is interesting what all of us think! I personally get really tired of seeing desserts on the cover of CL. I am not a big dessert eater, and so I may only make one or two out of 10 recipes. I would much rather see something on the cover that I am more likely to make - I have to eat dinner every day, but I really do not eat dessert every day! :)
Personally, I think that CL tends to be really heavy on the dessert side of things in general. But that is just IMO.

It was a lot easier for me to pick the cake than the grilled meat. I rarely eat dessert but that was hands down for me. I find the idea of eating red meat off-putting anymore.
I went with the cookies. The pie, as mentioned above, is somewhat a repeat and the cream cheese just didn't grab me. The cookies just said "comfort" to me.

I'm a complete sucker for desserts on a magazine cover, even if I never make them. I just think they're pretty! (I think I bought every magazine with a cookie or a cake on it during the holidays!)
I filled out the survey. I thought it was very timely, given our discussion on this BB about the March cover.

I agree with Lara. I don't bake that many desserts (it's just DH and I), but make dinner every day. I chose the entrees as my favorite.

That happened to me too. I wonder if it really is because we're under 25 or if we both just had some weird error occur at the same time. A survey I actually WANT to paricipate in and I can't.

Well they didn't like that I subscribed to the magazine. I guess they know that I'll get the magazine no matter what's on the cover. I got "Thank you for taking the survey" after that question.
I want to see the food also.

Really? I have to eat dessert everyday but I don't have to eat dinner every day! :D
(You don't even want to know what I had for "dinner" last night but let's just say it was in the "dessert" realm - hey, it had milk and bananas in it so it was healthy, right??)
Fun survey, I'm a sucker for the dessert covers too!

Marian I had the same reply, but I thought maybe it's because enough people in my age and sex range had already completed the survey. Who knows!

I'm a subscriber, too, and my survey ended after that. I'm ready to go back and lie just to see the covers everyone is drooling over!

I guess it's gone. I did it earlier this afternoon, and apparently they like the 25-34 crowd:D I went back to the site later and had to close the survey, but now nothing. (can you tell I'm bored working at night?)

I'm a subscriber and completed the survey earlier today. I am in a slightly "older" age group than 25-34 :p , but mayber the reason everone didn't get a chance to answer is like peggy c. said "because enough people in my age and sex range had already completed the survey".

I'm with LaraW and Karen M - I voted for main dishes as opposed to desserts on the covers. Those are the recipes I'm most interested in. There are 2 of us in my household, and I rarely make cakes and/or big desserts. I subscribe to CL to help me find recipes I can use every day, not just on special occasions. Although I will admit I refer to CL (and more especially the BB) for my special occasion desserts too. I will say that there's something especially appealing about a lovely dessert on the cover of the December/Holiday issue :).
