I got a subscription renewal notice in the mail about a month ago and with it was an offer for The Best of Cooking Light Classics. So I renewed, and I just got the supplement in the mail today! I think there are 112 recipes in it. There are many of them that look wonderful. A lot of them remind me more of "down home" cooking, but there are some ethnic inspired recipes too. I was wondering if anyone else has this supplement, if you had tried any of the recipes, and what you think!
I got the supplement yesterday- I am trying to figure out if it is from 1998. I am pretty sure that it is. The recipes look good- I have not tried any of them yet.
Actually I have been trying to figure out why I got the supplement in the mail- and you answered my question- subscription renewal!!

Don't feel bad Julie. I have been a loyal subscriber myself for almost 10 years, and I give at least 2 or three gifts of CL a year for almost 10 years as well, and I have never received ANYTHING, EVER. I guess they figure we loyal customers don't need any extra incentive to renew - they take for granted that we will always renew no matter what. Oh well. The sad thing is they're right (at least in my case).
CL is always a Christmas gift to me from a daughter. I didn't receive the supplement either even though she has already returned the renewal a couple of months ago. She was trying to decide whether she should give her mother-in-law a subscription. Of course, I thought so. Cooking Light, if you are reading this, we would like that supplement also! Hints never hurt, do they?

I got this supplement, I guess because I renewed my subscription. I've tried several recipes from it and have been pleased. I liked the Fettucini Alfredo a lot -- it was very close to the high fat versions I've had in taste and texture. The Classic Meatloaf and the Roasted Garlic-Mashed Potatoes were both very good. The Oven Fries were okay, I think I overbaked mine a little.
And I have a funny story about the Manhattan Fish Chowder. It calls for chili sauce, which I was unfamiliar with and couldn't find at my regular grocery store (I've found it and used it in other recipes since then). I did find Hunan Red Chili Sauce, though (which I soon learned is about a gazillion times hotter!) so I used it. The chowder nearly set my mouth on fire, but it tasted good! My husband adores spicy food and loved it. Now, what we have dubbed "Hot Fish Soup" appears regularly at his office's chili cook-offs. People love it.
Now that you've brought up this supplement, I think I'll try some other recipes in it. It really is filled with classic dishes.
How do you get these supplements if you're not up for a subscription renewal? That's no fair! I didn't get anything when I subscribed! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
