While cleaning out my bedroom this weekend, I threw away a seam ripper that was about 20 yrs. old. (I NEVER sew). Not an hour later, I fished it out of the garbage, and discovered it is the best sausage case opener!! Now I am looking at all my unused tools with an eye toward a totally new function, before I throw them away.

Carolyn, you are right!

I have been using clothespins for years for all sorts of purposes. I am always astounded to find people using Bag Clips on Doritos while their poor bags of frozen veggies are left hanging open to the cold.

I work in an office, and am usually surrounded by all sizes of binder clips. They work great as bag clips to hold bags of chips, etc closed.

Oh, no, no, no....the secret is rubber bands. Just fold down the package and wrap it as tight as you need to. We use the ones that the paper boy wraps our paper in. Works great for those coffee bean bags in the freezer too. I credit this one to hubby.

Just one more thing.....rubber bands reminded me....I HATE KNOTS IN THE BREAD BAG! My mother does this and has for years. I get very impatient trying to undo the knot! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Maybe C/L should hold a contest for the most novel use of an item...we sure seem to be finding different uses for things on the bb.
