I would love any advice: we are moving shortly to a newly constructed home. I am planning to get some topsoil delivered before they hydroseed our front yard, which will get morning sun. The rest of our property will be shaded (a total change, I'm going from gardening in full sun to partial/full shade, very scary). I believe I'm zone 6-7 (tip-top of MD). Other than impatiens, what suggestions for annuals & perrenials? Any lawn tips - for ex anyone know anything about corn gluten for weed control? thx for any suggestions/help. sally

Hi Sal, I have partial sun/shade as well and find my options a bit limited. Begonias do well in shade and partial sun and, as you mentioned, impatients. I have also planted petunias with success. I really do love the begonias and the new guinea impatients. I have tried other flowers and they do grow, they just don't flourish without the full sun. I'm curious to see what other people suggest as well so I can get some new ideas!

I highly sugest you contact the extension office of the County you are moving to & request any publications they have on file for your conditions. They should have lists & tips for what does well in your particular area. You could also visit the closest garden center (NOT a Big Box Store) & talk to the people who work there. Both of these options are FREE & only take your time.

Good Luck!
