I am contemplating experimenting a bit with my usually traditional pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving this year. I've seen a number of "different" sounding recipes including pecan pumpkin pie, maple pumpkin pie... and so on.
Anyone have any special pumpkin pies they'd like to recommend?

My first recommendation is that you check with your guests! We tried something different in terms of dessert one year (not the traditional pumpkin and apple pies) and it didn't go over well... the die-hard dessert hounds wanted their standards. The next year, back to basics!

Last year in December's issue, there were several sweet potato pies that were somewhat innovative and looked really delicious. You might want to take a look at those.

No worries here. My family is relatively open to new things, and I have a reputation for coming up with unique recipes for family gatherings... everyone actually looks forward to it!

My Dad altered the standard Joy of Cooking pumpkin pie to include both egg nog and Kahlua. Not too radical a departure but a tasty one. What about one of the pumpkin cheesecake recipes that have been floating around?

In my searches for unique pumpkin pies, I happened upon a recipe that looks like a "must try". I found it at Epicurious, so I'm providing the link for anyone who might be interested http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I can get away with trying variations any time of the year EXCEPT Thanksgiving and Christmas. They have their taste buds ready for traditional and they are disappointed with anything else. Actually it makes things pretty easy.
