Hooray!!!

I went to the Columbus store earlier this week when I was there for work. They were really nice and we started talking, told them we were from Michigan. I said something about wishing we had a store. They said it will be in Ann Arbor. Right now they are scouting out locations. By the way the ladies were talking, they had already asked the employees who wanted to come and open the store.

Yippee!!:D

The store was smaller than I thought it would be. It is a really cool building though- octagon shaped. What did I buy? The question is what didn't I buy  In my defense, I was essentially replacing spices and building. I think I now have a spice cabinet to envy.

What I bought...

Saffron
Star Anise
Vanilla Beans
1 pound Hungarian Sweet Paprika (for my Dad)
Northwoods Seasoning
Turkish Oregano
White Pepper
Lemon Grass
West Indies Nutmeg ground
Tumerid
Lemon Pepper Seasoning
Mustard Powder
Onion Powder
Gumbo File Powder
Black Sesame Seeds
Parsley
Sweet Curry Powder
Onion Salt
Vanilla Extract- Single Strength
Almond Extract
Horseradish Powder
Hungarian Sweet Paprika
Taragon
Whole Nutmeg
Dutch Process Cocoa
Natural Cocoa
Garam Marsala
Crystalized Ginger
Chicago Steak Seasoning
Cinnamon Sticks
Bay Leaves
Vietnamese Cinnamon
Chinese Cassia Cinnamon
Ground Cloves
Dried Red Peppers (these just looked cool)
Apple Pie Spice
Arrowroot Starch
Cumin
Ground Chipolte Peppers
Coriander
Ground Ancho Chili Powder
Brady Street Cheese Sprinke
2- 32 oz jars
1- #A jar

It wasn't bad either- $132

Oh, Molli..........:(

I was so ready to jump on this thread and send you big big kudos for bringing this information home, and then I read this.............:o

I'm teasing!! Bless you bless you bless you!!!!!

(forgive me for CL offers no MAIZE color here.) I'm still thrilled to death that Penzeys is coming to Michigan (Jewel? :p ) hehehe. I live in Brighton, so that's a 20 minute drive, and I'm not there very often, once this happens, it will be a frequent stopping place.

Hail to the Victors???? :D :p :D :p

I can't agree with you. Nope. :p :D :p :D

The only positive is that I am in AA for work occasionally so I won't have to go out of my way for spices.

Oh great, so now when I visit A2, in addition to leaving room in my suitcase for beer from the Big 10 Party Store, I have to leave room for spices, too?!

If only I could figure out how to bring back a pizza from Anthony's, and some ice cream from the Washtenaw Dairy, I'd be all set. Well, that just gives me another reason to visit. I'll be there this coming Thursday, in fact. Got snow?:D

Oh, I almost forgot....

Go Blue!

Hey, I've stopped at the Big 10 party store, too. :D

All you Spartans and *ahem* Wolverines are forgetting the fact that the Buckeyes are the ones with their own Penzey's.:p

Anyway, Molli, goad to hear that you were able to make it out to the Penzey's! The building is an old bank building, and I guess the employee break room is the old bank vault!

Guess another Sparty better step up and support Molli!!!

GO GREEN!

If I must go to A2, what a better reason than Penzeys!! Also, to kick some Michigan butt in football . . . .

Woohoo!
Right in my own back yard. I'll be humming the Victors all the way there. I'm surprised they decided to put it here, though, because Zingerman's is already doing an excellent job providing a lot of high quality stuff as is. And actually, there's a place in the South Main market that has some nice spices as well.

Does anyone know when it's supposed to open or where?

And as to the Spartan's talking smack about football... just you wait til next year. :) The timer will be held in the Big House ensuring no foul-play.... which means, of course, a Wolverine victory. :D

Go Blue!!!

HAIL TO THE VICTORS, BABY!

Now I can hit Penzey's along with Jerusalem Garden when I go back for my once-annual game.

And then Zingerman's for the trip home.

Ann Arbor has its flaws, but for a smallish midwestern city city it has fabulous food.

Molli,

You had me perplexed with this sentence for a moment until I figured out you were talking about Ann Arbor! :p I am in Michigan once in a blue moon (though it isn't too close) so thanks for the heads-up! I'd like to visit a real live Penzey's one day.

Plus maybe there's something wrong with me (okay, please don't comment on that) :o but I always found Ann Arbor a fun town to visit. :) And I'd like to go some fall and watch a football game! It's on my to-do list.

Natasha-

We have two univeristies here in Michigan which are big rivals. I went to Michigan State University , so I just have this thing against Ann Arbor. Most people who like MSU do :D I of course was one of those babies in MSU onesizes

There was a write-up in the paper a year or so ago about a guy who graduated from MSU (I actually think his blood is green) who owns a business located in Ann Arbor. He actually goes out of his way to not hire U of M grads. I thought it was funny, but that just shows how deeply the rivalry runs.

Sort of like Detroit & Colorado, U of M and OSU, ya da ya da.

Oh well - it's a friendly rivalry, right Molli??!! :D :D hehehe

YAY FOR PENZEYS IN MICHIGAN, WHEREVER IT GOES!!!!

Molli,

We have those rivalries about Canadian schools too, but generally they don't seem as strong as in the U.S. Still, they exist! :D I went to one university for undergrad and had a strong bias against another close school. Well, guess where I decided had the best options for law school - the rival!! :p Even after studying there for three years (and making fun of it the whole time, even if it did provide me with a solid education), my heart remains with my original school, where my whole family went/worked as well. My SO and I will never stop making fun of each other's campuses, though! :D

Now, if you want a strong Canadian rivalry, you will never find one better than the Leafs-Habs one (with apologies to the Oilers-Flames rivalry)!! Right, Sandy?

Natasha

P.S. I used to follow a bit of U.S. college hockey and was a Spartan fan myself.

Now that I've gotten completely off the topic of Penzey's, I will stop so that regular programming can resume.

A Penzey's in our own backyard!!! To cool. Just hope it's not downtown....Maybe they will put it by Hiller's Market on Washtenaw.
