My husband Mike and I live in Sunnyvale. We always enjoy meeting new people and LOVE food. We belonged to a "Gourmet Club" several years that was tons of fun. This sounds like it could be fun too.

Sounds like we may have 2 couples from Burlingame, we two from Sunnyvale, and a single(?) from Redwood City for a total of 7. Shall we make some plans to get together at a restaurant somewhere in the middle to meet and get to know each other?

I'm in Santa Clara and would love to join in, but I don't know how much I'll be able to host in my own home because I have 4 cats and 2 roommates (and no kitchen table!)
I guess we could sit on the couches... LOL

I can volunteer my house for you to host in MacKenzie and just do two times in my house in a row.
Great- we are up to 8 for our supper club!! I think getting together to plan our first dinner is a great idea. With the holidays, this week is a little crazy for us. How does next Tuesday (4/2), Wednesday(4/3), or Thursday(4/4) work for everyone? Maybe we could meet after work for drinks? I work in San Jose and live in Burlingame, so anywhere in between works for me.

I live in Burlingame and work in Foster City. DH works in Palo Alto so I'm willing to go a little south to meet up with everyone. Just don't want to brave south bay traffic if we can avoid that! :D I'm available anytime next week after 6pm.

Yes, I am a single. I hope that's okay. I'm available any night as of right now.
Thanks!

Week nites are hard. I hope we don't make too much of a habit of it. Next week, our only available nite is Thurs 4/4. Redwood city is about half way from the most North to the most South. Is there a good spot around there to meet?
BTW - can we email around some details so we can find each other when we go to meet up?

I haven't heard any thing since my last post so I figured I'd offer up a suggestion. We really enjoy a bar in Menlo Park. They have a small food menu for any of us that may not have had a chance to eat before meeting up and it's a lovely venue. Let me know what you think.

I don't have a preference as to where to meet. I'm guessing we all need to talk about how we're doing this right? I've never joined anything like this before so I'm completely lost here! Anyway, is Thursday, 4/4 good for everyone? How about 6:30/7pm?
Sunny, does BBC have big tables? Would they mind if we grab one even if we're only there for drinks?

The BBC has several places where the 8 of us can congregate. There's couches and smaller tables that can be pushed together.
If we try to make a reservation they want a credit card, and they charge $25 a person if we don't show and don't cancel. That sounds a little too restrictive for me. We can just show up and wing it.
I'm more worried about us finding each other considering that none of us know even the gender or real name of the rest of us. I'm a little leary about posting any of my info as part of a forum on the web. I've never done this before either and I don't know how people set all this up.
Maybe we'd be better off at a coffee shop where we can make a reservation easier and they might be better equipped for larger tables.

Hi all,
I just received the suggestions below from the the "supper club exchange." Those sound like good ideas. I'm wondering how everyone else feels about this. Should we go out for dessert at some dessertish place midway between Burlingame and Santa Clara so that we can make a reservation?
Or should we all show to the BBC on Thursday at 7:30 holding an issue of CL on our laps?
Maybe we can go to Max's in Redwood City. They have great desserts and appetizers are pretty geographically located. Who ever gets there first can get a table for 8 and give the name SupperClub.

Have everyone bring a copy of their latest issue of Cookng Light with them and hold them in a prominent location. That way you can recognize each other with confidence without having to embarrass yourself by asking everyone "Are you here for the Supper Club Meeting?" We met at a restaurant for dinner so there was a reservation. Maybe meet at a restaurant for appetizers or dessert if you don't want to have dinner, so you can have a table reserved in your name. That way they can just show you all to the same table.
Good luck!

I'm interested. I'm single and live in San Jose and work in Mountain View. I have no limitations as to where to travel for good food, so anywhere on the Peninsula is game for me, as well as in-home suppers. Please let me know what is going on.

Not trying to offer more suggestions here :D but how about meeting at a coffee place? I've never been to Cafe Baroni in Palo Alto but I've heard it's a cool place to go. Anyone been there? Is it a good place to meet? The first meeting should probably be pretty casual since we're all deciding on how to work this supper club. I'm not sure if Max's require everyone to be there before seating you. I've only been there a few times....they do have huge desserts! :D
Is everyone available this Thursday around 7pm?

Please don't apologize FoodQueen. I'm glad somebody besides me is coming up with a suggestion. I couldn't find anything about Cafe Baroni in Palo Alto.
Do you mean Cafe Borrone in Menlo Park near Kepler's Book Store? http://siliconvalley.citysearch.com/profile/838900/
I've never been there but it's supposed to be pretty cool.
Or maybe Caffe Verona in Palo Alto?

I'd be willing to try either. My DH doesn't usually get home from work before 7:00. We may get there a little late. 7:30 would be better for us.

As you can tell, I've never been to "Cafe Borrone"! :D So back to the question of date & time....Thursday, 4/4 at 7:30pm? Does this work for everyone?

I'm going to get there a little early so I'll try to get a big table or a couple tables together. I'm Asian, with glasses & short hair (geez, I sound like a nerd!). If my DH is with me, he's a tall white guy with brown hair. Of course, I'll also bring my April copy of CL!!! I can't wait to see you guys there! :)

Forgot to say that I'm wearing a red shirt today w/ or w/o my black leather jacket. :)
Unfortunately, I am feeling under the weather and will not be able to make it tonight. I am so glad that this supper club is getting started, and we are up for whatever you decide. Please let us know the plans for the next meeting.

It was great to meet everyone last night! We've decided to have our first supper club dinner on May 4th. Since it will be soooo close to Cinqo de Mayo, our theme will be Mexican. We will be going to KPOPOVEC's place. The host, KPOPOVEC, will be in charge of the entree and the rest of us will let her know what we plan to bring. It'll be on a first come first serve basis.
For those of you who couldn't make it to our get together last night, please email me (sfbasupperclub@hotmail.com) so I can include you on the email list. We figured it would just be easier to send out a mass email to everyone rather than try to organize on the boards.
Thanks Meg2 for starting this whole process rolling! I can't wait to hear from you! I hope you feel better!
I am very much interested in joining your supper club. I am single and live in Sunnyvale. If you still have room, please let me know when the next meeting will be. Thanks

Welcome Claire...here's the latest...6 of us met last week to discuss how to get this thing started, and I offered to have the first supper at my house (in San Jose) on Saturday May 4 at 6:30. Since it is quatro de Mayo, we agreed on a Mexican theme! I will provide the main course. Sunny Acacia is bringing the dessert, so far.
I will send direction to all via your individual e-mail address (vs. this cooking light message board).
If you (or Chen or Jules2 or Mackenzie or anyone else I may have left out for that matter) have specific food needs, allergies, etc. let us all know and we'll try and accommodate. That's it for now!
Thank you for your reply and hosting the first gathering.

I'm in San Bruno (on the edge of Pacifica) and am interested in starting a Cooking Light supper club on the peninsula. I see that there was some activity from some Burlingame / RWC etc. folks in March, and would be interested in joining in there if it's not too late. Otherwise let's see if there's enough interest in a new one.
I'm married, so depending on the night there would be two of us. During the week, there would be just one of us (he travels a lot)

Diane- We just had our first dinner last weekend. It was a stellar Mexican meal in honor of cinco de mayo. There were ten of us, 3 couples and 4 single women. Two couples come from Burlingame and the rest of us are from the South Bay (Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, San Jose)There are a few other interested people who couldn't make it to dinner.
We'd love to have you join. Let us know if you're interested.
