Just wanted to thank you for your thread(and everyone who had input!) on food savers. Like I posted, I bought one. But didn't have time to use it until last night. I vacuum sealed all of the carrots from my garden.

And WOW does it ever work nice!! It's incredible. I'm am sure glad I purchased it!!

Thanks again! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif I know it's a bit pricey ($100) but what a great gift it would make!

I have to say it again, again and again.....love my Foodsaver. Don't get in my way....I'll Foodsave anything....something like that commercial for making labels with the electronic label maker. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Just for kicks, has anyone ever tried a Pump-n-Save? I feel I am the only one I know that ever got this and it is one of my most valuable kitchen tools! You can keep things fresh for years and the lids for faster marinating are just incredible. Just thought of it cause it also does what that food saver does only you use regular bags and it was only $20.00. One of the best $20.00 I ever spent!!!

Glad you're happy with yours! I love mine too! It's one of those things that starts to pay for itself right away because of the things that don't go to waste!

Also, I posted a graphic of the foodsaver too (though Mamasue is a graphics whiz and could probably tell you more than I can!!!). I have a scanner and just scanned the image into my computer. The only trick with using images that you scan in yourself (as opposed to using graphics from the Internet) is that you must have space on the web (FTP space) where you can store your graphic. AOL provides a space to do this. I know that's probably clear as mud!!!

As for using graphics off the internet, you just need the URL for the graphic. You can usually find the address by right-clicking on a given graphic - a window will pop up with different information about the graphic. Then you just use the UBB code to post it - for instance for a graphic you would do the URL address

For instance here's the Cooking Light graphic:

http://www.cookinglight.com/images/cllogo2.gif

If you go to the homepage and right click on this graphic, then click on "properties" you'll find the address you need to post the graphic. One hint - don't put any spaces between your brackets "[]" on either end and your address or your graphic will not show up. Hope this helps!

I'm off to Sam's Club tomorrow, so the FoodSaver will probably be working overtime the next couple of days!

Mlou:

I have a product similar to the Pump-n-Save but I have never heard of using it with other bags -- How do you do that? I have used it with jars, but I don't use it very often because it seems to take forever to pull all the air out.

The pump-n-save has a stopper for the bottom hole and then you place a tube to a hole on the side, slip it in the bag and close the bag as far as possible and pump. Then you pull the tube out and close the bag simultaneously. The marinating covers work just like the jars but if you have a porous item like tofu, veggys, or meat, the liquid soaks right into them. It is an amazing tool, especially for one one of those tv ad kind of things that are usually gimmicks! If you ever see it, get it for sure http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
