Some South Carolinians started discussing a get-together on the "I got to meet Melman" thread -- http://www.cookinglight.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&postid=194239#post194239. We talked about the possibility of a day trip to Charlotte for shopping (food shopping, of course) and dinner. Are there others who would be interested in doing this? (North Carolinians -- you could come too!)

I'd like to be counted in the SC group. Let me know, if this gets put together.

Count me in. Let me know what kind of specialty stores, etc. everyone is interested in around Charlotte. We have World Market, Harris Teeter, Costco, Bed, Bath and Beyond for starters. I'm not sure what you're interested in.

I live near Debbie. I would be interested in a trip to Charlotte. We also have "Fresh Market" in Pineville (south Charlotte) ;). I don't know about many resturants in Charlotte. I know there are some good ones. Two of my favorites are Trio and Melting Pot. They are both quiet so you would be able to actually talk. I would have to do it on a weekend. I have met other people from the BB since I went on the Birmingham pilgrimage last year to CL headquaters. What fun we had! :)

Thanks for starting this thread Gaye! I've been in training all week and haven't had much BB time.
My favorite restaurant in Charlotte is Village Tavern. I have to admit that I haven't been to terribly many restaurants there though. We have Trio's and the Melting Pot in the upstate and they're both good.
What's World Market?? Have I missed a Charlotte grocery store?? HT would HAVE to be on the list! (Gosh, they're having such a wonderful sale this weekend, I'm actually trying to talk myself into a little drive up I-85.) We have a Fresh Market in Greenville...and I'm pretty sure there's at least one in Columbia.
Other suggestions???

I think there is a natural food store called "The Home Economist" in Charlotte. I went there a couple of years ago. I am sure there are probably others, I just usually shop at Bi-Lo. :)

HA! Since I'm still doing my own personal mini-boycott of Bilo, I'd have to find something else to do if the group decided they needed to go there!! Eeeks!!! I know..I could just hang out in HARRIS TEETER during that time!!!! ;-)

I guess I missed out, why are you boycotting BiLo? I wasn't suggesting shopping there as a group, I do that every week. :) I think it would be more fun to do something unusual. I am just not too familiar with Charlotte to suggest anything specific. Hopefully someone else knows more about it than I do.:)

P.S. World Market is similiar to Pier 1 Imports except they have a grocery section. It isn't a grocery store really, mostly some specialty foods and a big selection of wine.I don't think they have a refrigerated area or anything like that. It is a cool place to go but not somewhere you would spend an entire day. I have spent a couple of hours there before with my MIL browsing. :)

You'll laugh. I'm doing my own personal pseudo boycott of Bilo for the simple reason they bought the HT's up here. They dared to move into one of the sacred shrines...and then left at least one of the other stores sitting ugly and empty. You can still see the HT logo if you look toward the store. BTW...I started disliking Bilo about 15 years ago when they bought a store called Welcome and closed it. That was the first grocery store I actually LIKED! It was a fun experience instead of a dreaded experience.
My grocery shopping amounts to first Publix...then Walmart...then pick-any-other-store in the area (Fresh Market, Earthfare, Garner's, Aldi's...and THEN I might make it to Bilo). I try to support Publix first among any of the other major chains.
So...think I hold a grudge long enough? :D

Did anyone ever set up the meeting? :)

I don't think so. Should we try this again???
