An update on the Pi Day potluck. For those who missed the other thread, today (March 14) is Pi Day, as in 3.14159. Our science museum celebrated this with a potluck, and I was assigned a main dish "pi" as my contribution. :)

I ended up making the Chili Relleno Torta that I posted on this thread:

http://www.cookinglight.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=21708&highlight=Easter+dinner

I skipped the cornmeal crust. Thus, it was a crustless "pi"... but people loved it!

There was also a spaghetti pie, a pizza pie, and a shepherd's pie. Plus lots of non-pie side dishes. At 1:59 (3/14 at 1:59, get it? )we get to head back over to share in the good stuff... I think our marketing manager bought every flavor of pie under the rainbow! Mmmm.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions on what to bring!

ok, Stephanie, I think I am actually a little scared of you and your friends... :p

Just kidding! It sounds like a lot of fun, and that torte looks WONDERFUL!!! What a great idea!

I'm scared sometimes too, especially since I have a limited background in science! :D But hey, I learn something new at work just about every day. I have to, so that when I do preschool programs the kids don't ask questions that are over my head. :p

Gertdog,

I have to make something for an office potluck on Monday and I though I would make the chili relleno torta. (thanks for posting by the way. Looks yummy.) If I make it with a crust the day before and refrigerate will it still work. Can I serve it at room temperature since I won't have a way to reheat?

Thanks Anne

Okay, math geeks. I just had to write and let you know that my husband is reading a book called "A History of Pi", written by Petr Beckmann (Petr is the correct spelling!).

DH was unaware of this special day but wanted to recommend the book to math geeks AND non-math geeks alike. Apparently there's a lot of social commentary that's interesting.

My ds had a pi party at school Friday! It was great! The parents were to send in different types of "pi"s or round food items...here's some of the stuff that was sent in and the kids loved it all!
Pizza Pi's
Moon Pi's
Apple Pi
Pumpkin Pi
Jello Jigglers-round, different colors & sizes
Round Brownies
Lots of round chocolate chip cookies! Different sizes.
Tons of other round treats!
I brought in a CD player and played CD's, because they are round!
Nice to see we weren't the only pi in the sky!
