I just made a recipe (Caribbean Black Beans and Sweet Potatoes) that contained banana chutney, and I love the stuff so much, it's hard not to just eat it out of the jar! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif Does anyone know of any other recipes that call for this ingredient? I'd love any suggestions you might have. Thanks! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Gosh, I've never heard of banana chutney before, but it sounds crumptous!!! It's only 7am here, and I would probably put it on a toasted bagel. Where did you find this chutney, or did you make it yourself?

It's Busha Browne's Banana Chutney, and I found it at Whole Foods ( I LOVE that store; I think it's time for another visit! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif ) It has about the same nutritional value as jam --I think it probably would be good on bagels; I'm cutting out cream cheese from my diet now (so much sat. fat, and I tend to sometimes eat it by itself, too -- yes, I know that's weird http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/redface.gif ) so it would be a great substitute. It's so yummy!

BANANA CHUTNEY
1 pound Spanish onions
1/2 pound chopped dates
6 riced bananas
1-1/2 cups vinegar
1/4 pound crystallized ginger, chopped
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon curry powder
1/2 pound seeded raisins
2 cups syrup from any canned fruit
Mix chopped onions, dates, bananas, and vinegar; simmer for 20 minutes.
Add ginger, salt, curry powder, raisins, and fruit syrup.
Cook until thick; turn into clean hot jars, and seal them.
Yield: Makes 4 pints

I've never heard of banana chutney before, either, though it sounds delicious! I searched for a web site for the manufacturer, & lo & behold found http://www.caribplace.com/foods/bushab.htm !
No recipes on the site, but there is a link to buying their Jamaican cookbok, which I'm sure has recipes including that chutney.

Thanks, everyone, for your info!
Wendy w, how long should you let the yogurt drain through cheesecloth before it's the consistency of cream cheese? do you have to add anything?
Ralph, I'll check out that cookbook...maybe I can memorize a recipe or two in B&N, even if I don't buy it http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/redface.gif...I know, I'm so ashamed..

Emily,
Remember that you can use non fat yogurt cheese as a cream cheese substitute!
