I'm feeling extremely impaired lately because I don't have a food processor. Do you all find yours to indispensable, or do blenders suffice as an alternative in most cases? Also, what maker would you recommend as my best bet for the money? I'm not looking for anything with all sorts of new-fangled funky features, but just some tried and true, classic model. Any suggestions?

I vote for the 11 cup Kitchen Aid. I LOVE mine and used it 4-5 times a week. Other than the coffee maker it is the only appliance given a permanent home on the counter.

Wow, thanks, that thread answered almost all of my questions. One thing, though. How much effort is required to clean it after each use?

I don't remember all of that previous thread but I do love my cusinart-I have a sinkful of soapy water ready to go whenever I cook. I drop the parts in when I'm done and it doesn't seem to take long at all. When I have lots of chopping, grating, etc. to accomplish, washing up seems such a small price to pay!

I also have an 11 cup Cuisinart. I did get the new top (saw it being used in foodtv) and its good when using the blade (cannot be used with the discs) Cleaning Cuisinarts is easy just wash with soap & water. Sometimes if making pesto I will wash it twice and add a bit of baking soda but odors never remain anyway. The new Cuisinart model is out now.

Food processors seem to be a lot of work to me and sometimes cutting can be a zen thing. Nobody mentioned the Vita Mix which would be my vote, a huge one at that, I waited too long, thinking it was expensive and wouldn't work-now I just can't say enough good about a Vita Mix. If you choose this for your blender, you will not need a food processor. I went through blenders and food processors all my life, now I would tell anyone setting up a kitchen that this is the tool to buy first!!!!!

I bought my Cuisinart at Sam's Club and it came with a bunch of blades and a video. The video had extensive demonstrations on how to use the machine...and it stressed how easy it is to clean--using the dishwasher. Now, I always use the dishwasher to clean it (the top rack)and it comes out fine.
