My mom makes the flan caramel in the microwave
She puts 1 cup of sugar, 3 tablespoons water and a couple of drops of lemon juice in a corning ware or pyrex. Cook in high for 3 minutes in your microwave. Then 2 mins but please keep a careful watch so it does not burn. Then coat the bakeware or proceed instructions for flan.
