Can I subsitute yukon golds for the russets in this recipe? I could go to the store but I'd rather not. I read some old threads but I am having problems finding a definitive answer.

I've made this twice with Yukon Golds and once with russets, and my family prefers the YGs. However, it is a little trickier to get out of the pan with YGs. Just make sure you really loosen the bottom well before you tip it over.

I agree. I always make these with Yukon golds. Yum Yum!!

I made this today and while the taste was excellent the presentation was not so good. I thought I had it loosened before I inverted it into the plate, but evidently not since I had a thin layer of potatoes very well stuck to the bottom of the pan. I scraped and scraped and scraped and finally got most of it loose and arranged it back on top....not the prettiest dish for sure, but still very tasty.
