On a thread Kima started a while ago, we were commenting on how sometimes there's a lively discussion on a thread until you post something, and then everyone mysteriously falls silent.... you've killed the thread. :D

I've never worried that I've killed an ongoing thread; just that I've started one that no one's interested in. Sometimes I'll open a thread that has no responses, because I think the author may be wondering why no one's interested in her/his ideas.
As I posted on another thread, sometimes I feel like "Typhoid Barbara" with television shows. Seems shows that I like are doomed to fail. Oh, well; I like to read!

Heheheheh....we can have a new song, a take off on that really awful rap song ("rap" is merely "crap" with a silent "c", IMHO) that I won't dignify by speaking its name. We can call it "Thread Killa."

When I left the boards for my "addiction" experiment I first went to my profile to unsubscribe from all threads (so I wouldn't be tempted to go look) and I must've been the last one to post to at least 50% of all threads I had responded to. I would say that gives me the prize for killing the most :o .

I went into a deeper and deeper depression every time opened that thread and no one had commented on my picture....:( But that's ok you guys, don't worry about me I'm over it... Seriously, I notice some members more than others -- and you're one of the ones I notice, dccornelius! I've recently found out that people DO remember things about you, and things that you've written -- even if they don't bring 'em up all the time. I think we're all just a little insecure!
It's time to stop -- we're all important! Really!
And I'm okay with ending this thread. Seriously. So don't post anymore responses. I dare ya!

Oh, I think you are right that no one is purposefully ignored....there are plenty of BRILLIANT things I never respond to that I see on here. It's just so funny to me that I wouldn't notice that my office neighbor didn't say good morning, but I notice my "imaginary friends" are ignoring me......

Food girl's way to kill threads:
1. Don't even think about posting until the thread is at least on it's 3rd page.
2. Be sure to re-state something said on page 2 (which you didn't read till later)
3. Mention cadavers, a vulva, um, maybe throw in a dogs anal gland for fun.
He he! I'll be th' killa for sure!

And hood ornaments. Never mind, that one seems to prolong the thread quite extensively.
By the way, did you notice that while I didn't kill the thread, I WAS ignored, except by SusanL who thought I was talking about starting a thread that no one else posted on. Actually, I was talking about adding to a thread and having the discussion continue right past me, like a river around a rock. Sort of like that last post of mine on this thread.
So here I am again, knowing I will not be the one to end this thread. I'll just pretend I don't care. Go ahead, talk amongst yourselves. Sniff. Does anyone feel sorry for me yet?

How pathetic is it that I'm curious to know how this one ends? Will it go on forever? Or will one of us earn The Title?
Time for us East Coast girls to take over.
(How many time zones do we cover on this board, anyway? I think Shirley Eckstein (England) is the farthest east -- who's farther west, Zinnia (Alaska) or Suzy (Hawaii)? Or am I missing somebody?)

Sorry I missed the California geography discussion. That would surely have killed the thread.

Peggy—
Good Morning to you too. :) Actually, almost anything would be interesting over margueritas in Seattle. I don't usually drink, but I do like a good marguerita—especially the salt part.
Suzy—
You're right—you don't ignore me. We few Idahoans have to stick together. Of course, we are both transplants from somewhere else, but I have been here almost long enough (15 yrs) to actually think I am from Idaho (however, for native Idahoans, not nearly long enough). US hwy 95 and hwy 55 (can't remember if that one is state or US) are both twisty turny little two-lane highways that are frequently difficult to drive on. Beautiful scenery, though, especially where they follow the river. 55 is the one that goes through McCall; coming south 55 and 95 split at New Meadows, so you have your choice of which bad road to drive on.
As for the north-south thing, Lewiston is fond of saying it was the first state capital until those rascally people in the south stole it. And at one time the legislature tried to stop funding for Lewis-Clark State college here because, after all, University of Idaho was just 30 miles up the road, and what did we need with 2 colleges so close together? Ignoring the multiple colleges in boise and southern Idaho.
It's kind of difficult for me to be the northerner here since I was born in Houston and grew up in virginia, and feel deeply southern in my roots (see previous threads involving cooking with bacon grease and eating corn pone and how fried chicken is comfort food and rice is better than potatoes).
Have I killed this thread yet? :p

I wonder who will kill this thread? Will it be me? Maybe so, it is Friday afternoon, after all and the boards are slow on the weekends! Maybe the thread will slip into the oblivion of page 2 and be gone forever!

True, but I seem to be one of the few people who actually visits the boards at home so I'll be here, checking to see what new flights of trivia and totally unrelated thoughts we can scrounge up to keep this thread going.

Good morning, Peggy. I got so involved reading the board, I haven't quite gotten back for the 2nd cup. I was just sitting here thinking, Hmmm, that cup's empty.
Idaho's idea of coffee is brown water, so we make California coffee. Rich and strong enough to stand up to sugar and cream. I remember when we went to Disneyland quite a few years back, and sitting in the hotel restaurant an extra half an hour just to drink the coffee because it tasted so good.
Sorry, gotta go and get some right now. :D

HAHAHAH!! LOL....Susan, I couldn't agree more. I can't believe with all the transplants here (in Boise, at least) from California, Salt Lake, Seattle, Arizona, Denver, etc that the coffee here is so bad. There's an espresso place in Boise called Moxie Java which all the locals think is so great. Blech! WEAK brown water. In fact, the food here at most restaurants is not all that great either. Can you tell I still have that uppity big-city attitude? No wonder I don't have any friends here!

Brown water is by definition weak. When they pour the coffee into your cup and you can see straight through the stream, something is terribly terribly wrong. You can't add sugar or cream because then you have sweet watery warm milk.
You definitely cannot see through my coffee when I pour it, and it tends to be more black than brown. But I'm not a coffee snob—I'm perfectly happy with Costco's Columbian coffee. I've had lattes on occasion, but I can never remember what the combinations are, so I'm pretty backwoods hick there.
And, as for food, it's not so much that the food is bad, but that there is very little diversity. Very few places to go that the menu is so interesting that you can try something new. Going back to Houston, or going to Seattle, gives me an opportunity to drool over a new menu (not so good for the patrons following) and spend way too much time trying to decide which new taste treat to tickle my taste buds with.
Now for a 3rd cup of coffee. Or the bathroom. Hmmm—bathroom, coffee, bathroom, coffee. What to do? :D Whoops—bathroom. See you later.
Peggy

It would appear that Az has been poorly represented on this thread. Come on girls! Where is every one!? I'm guessing that this thread is gonna make it until everyone's all together in Seattle ... it will slowly dissolve onto page 2 where it will be forgotten. Of course, the final poster would be someone not in Seattle at the time ...
sushibones
04-06-2002, 09:06 PM
Sounds reasonable, but if this thread is going to go on until Seattle, it'll be on page 20 or page 200 before it dies. Let's see — 157 posts in 5 days is an average of 31 posts a day times 24 days in April, 31 days in May, 21 days in June (we'll probably still be posting as we walk out the door) is 31 times 76, is 6, is 7, is 18 carry the 1, is 21 plus 1, is 2356 plus the 158 already posted (including this one) is a grand total of 2514 posts. Of course, that's only if we don't become more frenzied the longer this thread gets.
Well, that, indeed, appears to be happening. 12 posts on the 1st, 17 on the 2nd, 22 on the 3rd, 35 on the 4th, 49 on the 5th, and 22 today (your dates may vary depending on time zone). We seem to be falling behind today, but the night is still young, and it is a Saturday. And tonight we have an extra hour to post—you will remember to set those clocks back, won't you? Where are all those California girls?
Theoretically we should be able to take the increasing numbers and translate them into some kind of mathematical formula that would give a rough projection of the semi-geometric progression of the numbers with an approximate total for June 21 when we'll all be drinking margueritas at Anthony's and giggling far too loudly to care about this thread anymore.
Have I killed this thread yet? Can you tell I really don't want to do the dishes, either in the dishwasher, with soapy water, or under running water? Can you tell I really, really need to get a life?

SusiO was right, DNR= do not resusitate. Advance directives are an individuals wishes in writing stating what they want done in case they are later unable to make those wishes known verbally. (A very good idea for everyone I might add.) I too am a nurse and yes that is typical "nurse speak" along with all the gross jokes about phlegm and blood and guts at the lunch table in the break room. My husband teases me all the time that I speak a whole different language than he. He understands most of what I say now a days but when we first go married he had to ask a lot of questions.... Sorry about taking so long to answer.I was off to another one of my beloved 12 hour shifts. Three of those in a row is a tough thing to do in a dementia unit! Sure wish I could go to Seattle! That is gonna be an incredible time I am sure!

Good Morning Y'all, I have my computer back now that everyone is gone. We could start a NURSE thread, seeing how many nurse types are here. I am a nurse in hiding; left it behind when I had kids and the drs where throwing tables and scalpels at us!!! I'd much rather turn this into a gardening thread..the birds are chirping madly this morning. I must go OUTSIDE.
Hi Peggy, we missed you the other day. It looked like this thread was a goner..well this outta do it...

I can't add to a nurse thread but I could to a garden one. We had to mow grass yesterday. I am glad that we did since we ended up getting rain today. I bet I could actually watch it grow!

I don't know to many nurses these days that don't sit around and mostly complain about the "state of nursing" these days. It's not what it should be so I'd rather go with a gardening thread! Any suggestions out there for beautifying desert waste land? Thats what my back yard looks like right now! We are trying to kill off all the grass so we can "rock it in" and plant a raised garden. I have wnderful plans but just don't know exactly how to start! See, I told you we needed more users from AZ on this thread! I have our supper club at my house this weekend for the first time and my back yard looks like doo-doo! Help! Quick fixes any one?

Boy I thought I was typhoid Lisa for a minute there. How bout a big roll of nice pretty green indoor/ outdoor carpeting from Home Depot.?? Covers up the dirt and add a few pots full of flowers and whalla!! instant jungle:rolleyes: . Oh well I tried. Hey later you can roll it up and take it camping, if you camp. Arizona gardening can be beautiful..look under southwest gardening or for native water wise type gardens.

Now that this has become the catch-all ... I want that jump-roping sheep. I REALLY want him. But I don't want to lose my current avatar, so I'm scared to change. (I don't remember where I originally got this sheep.) SO ... if I change my custom avatar, can I still get back to this sheep?

I've never had any success saving an animated icon to my own computer disk, but if you figure out how, you could save a copy of the one you have now, just for future reference. You might want to e-mail Jennifer (@CL) to see if she has any suggestions. She's usually very helpful. :)
BTW, you might browse the plaudersmilies site just to see if it's there too.

Good morning! Thanks for the good wishes. I had a great day!
I don't want to encourage a nurse thread, but I did think of this story DH tells about his mom who is a nurse anaesthetist (sp?). It's easier to abbreviate: she's a CRNA. They sat down to eat spaghetti one night, and she told them it reminded her of the intestinal surgery she had worked on that day. And proceeded to tell them about it. No one else finished that meal, but she was completely unfazed.

good morning, Peggy
Just finishing my 3rd cup of coffee this morning (it was especially good this morning, and it's drizzly and cool here after yesterday's wonderful sunshiny day). I'm having people over for bridge on Wednesday, so yesterday turned into spring cleaning, and I wasn't on the board much.
I posted a message to you over on the Rajas Poblanos thread about corn tortillas. Happy to explain further if not clear.
Back to the cleaning (amazing how my cleaning seems to create bigger messes than the one I started with). :p

Susan,
I just checked the other thread. Thanks for the tips on resurrecting frozen corn tortillas. I was afraid to wet them last night, but next time I will know!!
It's cool and rainy here also. Quite a disappointment after our beautiful weather this past weekend.:(
Good luck on your cleaning!

Yeah, but if you don't remember where it came from in the first place ... .
I think if you forgot where it came from but you'd saved it to a disk that Jennifer could help you get it back on CL's files, but I could be wrong. (I seem to remember that she helped some people modify the avatars they'd found, but don't remember exactly what changes were made.)

I know what you mean about the avatars. I notice the avatar before I notice the user name. Recently I was looking at a thread and realized Emilycat was back and posting with us as soon as I saw her angel avatar.
There are some Avatars that always make me smile. I don't think I would recognize any of these people if they changed their Avartar.
dcornelius - I love the silly smiley
KValley - it is such a happy little smiley
lisas3575 - love the Who-Me? and the title
Lynn B - Very cute heart
Ralph - This is how I picture you in the kitchen whipping up something with great vigor
BosunsWife - Yup, you are a Jimmy Buffet Parrot Head
Little Bit - That elephant is tooo cute
Grace - blah blah blah blah....!! Can't say much more than that
MKSquared - Baahhhhhh
I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones I can think of right now.

I find people by their avatars and when someone changes their's it takes me a while to register the change in my brain so I can start knowing its them. (is that what is known as a brain cloud?) I know, all I have to do is read the name right! And I do this but I am such a visual person! I have considered changing my avatar but in light of the insecurities we have all shown here on this thread I think I will keep my little insane smilie... it's so me! And by the way- RobinC- in the words of one of my favorite Pooh animals "Thanks for noticing me"... Eore :o

Isn't that the truth! We are getting our house ready to put on the market, so the cleaning and such is more intense than usual. We looked at some other houses today, and they looked so perfect, then I came home to my work in progress. :( DS2 has soccer practice today, so won't make much progress this afternoon. :( :(
I think I'll go turn the coffee maker back on -- perhaps some caffiene will help. Gulp.
I notice my flag wasn't on the list above -- does this mean I can change it? I think I'm ready for something else. Any ideas?

Hey, somebody noticed me! :)
I like the kitty, but seem unable to resist switching to the elephant from time to time, though I go usually go back to the kitty. Something about dancing pink elephants gets me every time. Heh, heh, heh.
My total favorites were 1) a little penguin that walked (The file was too big, and I didn't know how to modify that sort of thing back then.)
2) a cute little bunny in a Christmas wreath, but he's gone too.
Wish I'd known how to save these things to disk back then. :(
What I'd really love is to get the picture I have of MY cat set as my avatar, since he's MY PRECIOUS kitty and I took the photo years ago when he was just a baby. (everybody say it together now: Awww!) :D

This latest discussion of avatars is the exact reason I have not, and more than likely won't, change my avatar! I lurk A LOT and (compared to a lot of people on this BB) post very little. I'm afraid I would be lost forever in the minds of many of you if I changed it (or is that my insecurity I am taping into. Then again the subject of this whole thread seems to be insecurity. At least I'm in good company ;) )

Wow, SandyM, you avatar moves. I think this is the first time I've seen that happen since you changed it.
Jewel, on my DSL connection at home "bart" can surely move. He must have had too much caffine...:D
I too recoginze people by avatars and it takes me a while to register changes as well. I 'remember' where I stopped reading a tread by scrolling and just looking briefly at avatars.
I just don't have the patience to deal with searching the net for graphics (or really the time when I'm at work)..

Me too! Plus, it's so confusing to me when someone else comes aboard with the exact same avatar as someone else. I know that someone has the same dog face as Blue Moose, and I'm always thinking it's her posting when it's not.

I know the flag isn't unique, but I'm almost the only one who still uses it -- and I just don't have the time and patience to search. I don't think I ever got an imported one to work, and now those links are dead on another computer. Well, maybe once I am packed and moved into the new house I will get a new avatar to go with it.
Back to the coffee maker -- another theme. :D
BTW, while my milk is steaming, this thread is not just about insecurity -- for me, I am not doing a lot of cooking, and no more gardening riht now, so it's just a way to stay connected and not feel guilty for not caring about or taking the time to cook more right now. So. for now.....

Hehe...I am with you. I get bored very easy also. My problem is changing to different bedspreads. It drives my DH crazy!
I like seeing different avatars too (although it is sometimes like seeing an old friend with a radically new hair style and color -- certain ones are so tied up with identities that it takes a little getting used to). For myself, I just don't know how you folks find them all. But thanks for keeping us entertained.

*LOL* it sometimes takes my DH a week to notice I have changed things around. He 's either too tired to notice, has his mind on other things or he's just used to things changing and does't think it's decessary to mention it any more! He's great in that he doesn't care what I do in the house or yard for that matter. If it was up to him all the walls would be white and there would be nothing on the walls. Boriiiiiiing!
