View Full Version : Curious about my bread machine...

I have a Hamilton Beach Breadman and it has a feature that I find annoying. My paddle continues rotating very slowly and in time spaced intervals during the Bake cycle, pulling the dough into a circular mess in the middle and usually causing my beautifully risen dough to collapse! I can't count how many times that when I have taken the bread out and flipped it over, the bottom looks like star gasses forming into a star! Is this normal, does anyone have a work around, is there a way for me to turn this off? I know that I can't be the only person this has happened to!

TIA.... Jean

How long have you had this bread machine? Has it always done this? I'm just asking because I can't imagine that this is the way it is supposed to work. I don't have a Hamilton Beach brand bread machine, but it just doesn't make sense that this would be the way it is designed to work. I would take it back and trade it in for a new one. I have a Breadman Ultimate 2000, and the paddle doesn't move during the bake cycle.

Your machine definitely sounds defective. I would try to return it!

As a work around, someone gave me a tip last year on how to eliminate the huge hole that the paddle leaves in the bottom of the bread. It may prevent your problem as well. After all processes which require the paddle are finished, take the dough out, remove the paddle, and plop the dough back in. It can then do its final rise and bake without the paddle. Now, the little stick that holds the paddle is still there and if it starts moving it may still cause you problems. But it should be better than what happens when the whole paddle moves. Did that make any sense?

Good luck!

The only time that the paddle should move is ONCE during the last rise, to get out the last bubbles. Sounds defective to me.
I suggest, you call the manufacturer, and have your model# ready and describe the problem you are having.
Keep us posted!!!
