Last night I made Chipotle Tamale Pie using TVP instead of ground meat and I was really happy with the results. This was the first time I have used TVP and I was wondering if anyone has any nutritional information on it.

Thanks,
Cheryl
PS. It was also the first time I had used Chipotle chilies and I now know why so many of you like them -- they are wonderful (and addictive I think).

I love this board so much!!! I have always loved to cook, but my creativity is very limited. I have learned so much since I have been participating on this board. (maybe a month). The different ingredients and herbs and combinations of foods is so exciting.

Texturized vegetable protein. You can use it in much the same way that you use ground beef...in chili, spaghetti sauce, etc.

Phantomcg, I am so glad you liked the TVP. I also used it and made the chipotle tamale pie and fell in love with the chipotle peppers, maybe a little too much. The dish was very spicy but also very yummy.

I have some other recipes that use TVP, just let me know and I will post them.

BTW, my name is Cheryl also.

Norma, thanks for posting that nutritional info for me. i bought my TVP from Bulk Food Pantry and they didn't list anything.

Bijoux22, I would love to see your other recipes using the TVP. I am bound and determined to lose weight by April (our 10th anniversary and a trip to Hawaii!!) and the TVP should fit in well with my plans.

Cheryl (when my Mom named me, she spelled my name with a "C" because everyone else was using "S", now it seems like every Cheryl I meet uses a "C" too!)

I HIGHLY recommend Bijoux's shepperd pie with tvp! Delicious! You can do a search and find it. If not, I am happy to type it if anyone is interested.

I'd like some recipes using TVP too! A friend introduced me to it when I was staying at her house, so I bought some for my own pantry. I used some once, but I think I used too much. I wasn't following a recipe -- just adding some to pasta sauce. It ended up REALLY thick, with way too much TVP for the amount of tomato sauce. So, I've been hesitant to try it again without some instructions. I'd love to see some recipes, so I can get comfortable with how much to use. Thanks!
