I was wandering around in my favorite market for produce (see the 'how many stores do you frequent thread! :o ) and saw 'Blue Bunny' ice cream. I'd never heard of the brand before! I've heard you Texas people talk about 'Blue Bell' and I thought maybe it was a subsidiary or something, but the label says it's home is Iowa?
Anyway, the reason it struck me is I saw a box of Ice Cream Bars, looking remarkably like Fudgsicles. They said Fat Free, so I looked even closer! There were 6 bars in the box, 3 chocolate fudge and 3 chocolate/vanilla swirl. Imagine my surprise when I looked at the nutrition label and found one of these bars was only 60 calories! They're also sugar free! I figured for that little amount of calories and zero fat they HAD to taste icky. But, since I'm the adventurous type I decided to pay the $3 and make DH take the first bite. :p Wow, were we impressed!!! Most fat free ice cream (ice milk?) is very crystally and grainy, but these were creeeeeammy and really good! We both said that they weren't Dove Bars or Haagen Daz by any stretch of the imagination, but for 60 puny calories they sure gave us the chocolate/ice cream fix! DH also loved the fact that 'portion control' was already taken care of! :D
I've not seen these in any store but my local Market Place grocery, which is a United Grocer/Thriftway store I believe. My luck, they'll discontinue the things and I'll never find them again, but if anyone has ever heard of them and wants to take a chance, we're giving two thumbs up!
Woohoo! Just found 'em on the web! www.bluebunny.com of all places!

Jewel-
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but blue bunny went by way of pirate's booty last year sometime. There was a big discovery that their nutritional info was incorrect. I'm not sure if they corrected it and I'm not sure if it was bars as well (I do remember specifically their regular ice cream) as I don't get it here in NYC.
Sorry :( I'm just waiting for them to say the same thing about my favorites here in nyc..alpha 1 and tasti D...both claim to be something like 9 calories per oz.

I grew up eating Blue Bunny ice cream!!
I don't know about the specific product that you are asking about, but they are a company that has been around for a long time - 25 years or more. 25 years is the extent of my memory....
Anyway, just wanted to let you know that this was not some fly-by-night company.

JeAnne, thanks for the info! I just emailed Blue Bunny and asked 'em for the real scoop. ;) I also used the Store Locator and found out that all the Albertsons stores in my area carry the products.
I really hope that they've fixed the problems by now! :( I'll let you know what I find out!

Oh Jewel, do post when you hear from them. I have a box of the treats in the freezer here at work now. I think mine are the orange/cream & raspberry/cream kind.

Jewel~
I always have to chuckle when I read your posts of great finds and then almost immediately find out that you have an eye for frauds!! :p Well, ok the only other time I remember is the Jolly Time incident.....
It reminds me of the Seinfeld episode of the "fat free" yogurt....I think my whole life has been on one seinfeld episode or another.
Can't wait to hear if they respond to you!!!!
As soon as you hear all is ok with them I'm going out to try them!!

Blue Bunny is also available in Indiana. I haven't tried any of the No-fat things. I'll be waiting for any info you can find out from the company. Thanks, Jewel for taking the initiative.

Jewel,
Blue Bunny is a staple in Wisconsin. However, it really can't compete with Breyers or Ben & Jerry. I always think the ice cream is a little grainy. Sort of on the cheap side.
However, I did grow up with it. Lots of cool types of ice cream treats for the summer. :)

I've heard of Blue Bunny being a "good" treat for people following WW -- it's low in points and tastes good. I haven't heard the fraudulant claims accusation before -- I'm interested in find out more about it!

Oh, no!!!
I have the Blue Bunny ice cream bars in my freezer right now and I love them. It would figure, though, that they wouldn't really be so low in fat and calories because they are soooooo good!
I am waiting (holding breath) for your response, Jewel!

Jeez Girl, breathe already! Don't wanna be responsible for you passing out on us! ;) I still haven't heard anything, it might be a few days. Their site is very interesting, but doesn't contain a whole lot of 'press' type info. I've done an internet search trying to find the newsy type stuff that JeAnne eluded to and so far nothing! We can only hope that they fixed whatever problem there was! I've learned to be very cautious with nutrition labels after the Booty Boycott, but hopefully these people are true blue ! :D

We love Blue Bunny here. I buy ice cream sammiches for DH since he can have the real deal... they make strawberry cheesecake ice cream sandwiched between golden "cookies". Absolutely to die for, and so are the Mississippi Mud sammiches (chocolate/chocolate chip ice cream between chocolate cookies). Mooooo.....

Blue bunny is a big brand in AZ too. I don't buy much ice cream, but they are one of the brands I would buy. I really like Healthy Choice ice cream, and so when I splurge on "ice cream" that's what I get. Blue Bunny is definitely a good second choice though.

Whew!!! Okay, Jewel, I'm breathing. I guess I just won't eat the whole box at one time until we find out the "real" scoop ;) .
Debbie
Thanks for the recommendation! I noticed these awhile ago but didn't try them because they sounded like something that was just too good to be true. Based on this recommendation, I bought some at the store last night and found that they were really very good! I'm not too crazy about getting more artificial sweeteners (as I sit here drinking Diet Coke) but other than that concern, they are surprisingly good!

And there are the smaller fudgesicles too - 12 in a box and only 35 or so calories. They are very good - I've tried other brands of fat-free, sugar-free fudgicles and nothing compares to Blue Bunny. We always have a box or two of them (DH loves the raspberry/orange ones mentioned above too).
I don't remember hearing anything about the Blue Bunny ice cream bars, but I do remember there was a big thing with Big Daddy's, some sort of ice cream cup that was supposedly 2 WW points for an 8-ounce cup of ice cream. I think it turned out to be 2 points per serving, and there were 3 servings in the container. (There were many tears and angry shouts when the WW leader announced it at our meeting). I wonder if the Big Daddy's were made by Blue Bunny?

In my A&P, they sell a brand called Skinny Cow - flying saucers at first and now ff fudge pops and low-fat sundae cups. They taste great and are low in fat. Has anyone else tried this brand?

I still have never heard anything from Blue Bunny, and maybe I haven't heard anything because they don't feel they have to defend themselves or something! I for one am gonna keep my freezer loaded with these things! YUM!
