I posted this question previously, but I don't think enough people had gotten their November issues yet to be able to answer. My apologies to those of you who've read this before!
I'm wondering if anyone has tried BOTH the Apple Torte from the October issue and the Applesauce Raisin Cake from the November issue. I have seen favorable reviews on both of them, but I am trying to decide which to make for a women's group meeting Wednesday night. I will have to make it Tuesday, so any input on how they work for making ahead would be helpful too.
So please, does anyone have an opinion which is better? (I hate making these kinds of decisions on my own!)

BeckyM,
I haven't tried the Apple Torte yet, but I have to say that the recipes so far that I have tried that are reader's recipes that have been lightened, (Whew..long sentence) have resulted in excellent ones. So, my advice try either one. Just remember that the Applesauce Raisin Cake's frosting is a sweet one. If you think that the frosting would be too sweet for some of your guests then I would say that the Cream Cheese recipe (from Italian Cream Cake) would be a wonderful substitute. Good Luck! No matter which one you choose....you will WOW your guests! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Mamasue,
Thanks for the input! I decided to make the Applesauce Raisin Cake based on your earlier review. Also, I felt more confident in my cake abilities than I do in my torte/cheesecake skills. The frosting tasted pretty good to me (I dipped some pecans in it and ate them that way -- YUM!), but I haven't yet gotten to taste the whole thing together. That will be tomorrow night, so I'll let you know how everyone likes it. I did add some pecan halves aranged in a circle on top to make it look more decorative. Some people in this group bring store-baked treats, so I think they'll be pretty impressed. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Do those of you who have made the applesauce cake think it would be ok to substitute dried cranberries for the raisins?

The Applesauce Raisin Cake was a huge success! Several people asked me for the recipe. Since Mamasue had said the frosting came out a bit skimpy, I made a double batch and had leftovers. I didn't want to run out, and I definitely used more than half of what I made. I also made one small substitution -- I didn't have any raisins, so I substituted dried cranberries.
My only problem now is that I have about 1/3 of a cake leftover in my fridge at home. It is calling my name clear across town! I'll have to find someone my husband and I can share it with!
