Our supermarket sales start on Wedns. Harris Teeter has Asian basa (fish) on sale this week. Has anyone ever heard of it? Does anyone know what type of fish this compares to?

I looked it up on Yahoo!, and found only recipes and mentionings on restaurant menus...all the reviews raved about the fish, though, and mentioned its delicate taste. The only comparison I could make would be to orange roughy. From what I read, it sounded promising...I'd give it a shot, and prepare it with a light Asian style sauce. You could probably find some recipes using a search engine...I'd help you out, but I don't know how to use hyperlinks http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif Let us know if you decide to use it! I'd love to try a new fish http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I have found out that basa is a vietnamese fish, and seems to be used in "oriental" type fish recipes. I would like to try it this weekend, but the only suitable recipe I have seems to be the flounder with Thai scallion sauce. Has anyone tried this?? Any other ideas??

I did a search on www.google.com (http://www.google.com) for basa+fish and came up with www.foodtrader.com (http://www.foodtrader.com) It seems that "Farm Raised Basa Fillet" is classified as Vietnamese catfish. I would assume that you can treat it like catfish, tilapia or bullhead. Good luck!
