Got mine on Friday. Read most of it on Saturday. It's awesome. Lots of good info balanced with a fair amount of useless trivia and his usual brand of humor.

Where did you all order yours from?
I ordered from Amazon.com and just got an email saying, "We are sorry to report that the official release date for this book has been pushed back to 05/31/2002.
We are very sorry for the disappointment."
Wah Wah Wah! I want my book!

I just ordered this from half.com and paid $23.50 before shipping. Check it out here: http://half.ebay.com/cat/buy/prod.cgi?cpid=1081431464&domain_id=1856 .
I'm glad to hear that the shipments from the FoodTV web site went out (or are currently being shipped). I was just wondering last week when I'd be getting mine, and have anxiously awaited the mail/UPS man every day recently!!
Thanks for the good news! :)

I ordered mine from the food website about 3 weeks ago but haven't heard anything yet. When did you order yours from Food TV?

Dunno...couple a months ago?
I think I ordered mine about a month ago. I haven't received any email yet either, but I hope it's on the way anyway!

I tried to be nice. I tried to do things the right way. I've been planning to take a trip to Atlanta on May 9 for the book-signing at Borders. I was very much considering buying the book at Borders since I figured that's really the right way to do things.
HAHAHAHA! Forget that!! I called Borders on Peachtree today.
Me: Do you have Alton Brown's new book?
Borders: Hmmm...this is strange. No, we don't. There's a back-order of 767 books.
Me: Well...do you have ANY idea whatsoever what those 767 people are going to do on May 9 when Alton Brown is there signing his new book?!?!?
Borders: Good question.
Then he started sort of grasping at possibilities. They're expecting a shipment and hope it arrives by May 9. I asked if they required that people buy the books at their store. He said they preferred it, but no, they don't require it. I told him I was driving 150 miles and that I'd probably go ahead and buy it locally to be sure I had one when I got there. He said he didn't blame me!!
I've heard or seen various options on these books today. One scenario is that they're already in the second printing and that's what's caused Amazon to move their availability date to the end of May (from the original April date). One store guessed that they're on the second printing because of advance sales. Some booksellers can see it on their list, but none have shipped yet.
Looks like the man is entirely more popular than either he or his publicist ever imagined. Now that I have a book on hold at a local store and will head that way tomorrow to buy it, I'm psyched!!! :D
Okay, I guess I'm really naive. I thought when bookstores had booksignings, they already had books on hand for the author to sign!
Geez, I didn't realize this book is in such hot demand! Our B & N has about 10 on the shelf, but of course, I've held off buying it, because I wanted an autographed copy from the FoodTV site. I guess I should have bought all the copies and held them for ransom on half.com or ebay. :)

Didn't order the book, but hope to get it some day.
Here's the OT: Saw on his web site that part of his book tour included a cooking class at Sur la Table in downtown Chicago in June. Thought, gee, this would be a good anniversary and/or birthday present for DW (those dates are a week apart). Kept going back to Sur la Table's web site for more info since they've yet to post a schedule past May. Nothing, nothing, nothing.
So I tried the old-fashioned method of a telephone call! Got hold of some very disinterested sounding guy who says, no, they haven't posted their June schedule, yet, but it should be up on the web "soon." And by the way, "what program are you interested in?" I say Alton Brown - he says sorry that's sold out! How can that be if it's not published on their site yet. "Well, Mr. Brown's been advertising it on his site, but it's already sold out even though we don't have any more information about it." And apparently, there's no waiting list for cancellations. Maybe I'll try back tomorrow in hopes of reaching someone with a little more enthusiasm....
Maybe I should be posting this on the Bad Service thread?

Wow. Guess I was lucky to get my copy on Friday. If anyone in the Raleigh area is interested, I saw a ton of copies at Barnes and Noble on Glenwood. And no, I haven't made anything from it yet. I did check it to make sure that I was breading my fish correctly for pan frying, though (yay!I was!I'm so happy I know how to do that without using a book! This may be the first semi-complicated thing I can say that about). I like the science part of it more than I think I'll use the actual recipes, though. But that's why I bought it, honestly...I've got a million books giving me recipes for well, for whatever, but his book gives me the why behind the recipes. And like a 3 year old, I'm very interested in "why?". And i get very annoyed when someone tells me "just because." There are no "just because" explinations in this book, which is why I love it.

I ordered my autographed copy from the FoodTV website a month ago and just got an email notification a few days ago that it had shipped! :D Haven't received it yet, but at least it's on its way...and autographed no less! ;)
