Here is an interesting dilemma:

You are driving along on a wild stormy night. You pass by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for the bus:

1. An old lady who is about to die.
2. An old friend who once saved your life.
3. The perfect man (or) woman you have been dreaming about.

Which one would you choose, knowing that there could only be one passenger in your car?

This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job application. You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus you should save her first; or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and this would be the perfect chance to pay him back. However, you may never be able to find your perfect dream lover again.

Think before you continue reading...

The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) had no trouble coming up with his answer. WHAT DID HE SAY?

He simply answered: "I would give the car keys to my old friend, and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the woman of my dreams."

Sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our stubborn thought limitations! (think "out of the box").

Good answer! I didn't think outside the box. I said the friend. I figured the old lady will die anyway (I know--how cruel is that?!:o ), The friend is already an established fact, they are a friend and one should do anything for them. How would I know that the man of my dreams would be there forever? More than likely the friend will be there till the end.
Thanks Sandy, that was fun. Though now I realize that I have cruel tendencies towards eldery, dying people!

I didn't think out of the box, either. I picked the old lady, so her last few days/moments would be more comfortable. The friend...I figured this isn't a life and death situation, and if they are a good person, they would want me to pick up the old lady. And the man of my dreams....I'm already married with children, so that would be inappropriate!;)

I picked the old lady...I figured I already had my dream-man sitting at home in front of the fireplace with a glass of wine watching the storm and waiting for me to get home (sigh!) and the friend once saved my life so she'd understand if I tried to help someone else! ;)

Another vote for the old woman. A true friend doesn't expect anything for a previous good deed and they would understand my actions. Wish I had been clever enough to think of the man's response!

Darn...I got pretty close but couldn't quite come up with the answer. I thought of letting one of the others drive the old lady somewhere. I didn't come up with the fact that I'd be left there with the man of my dreams if I let the old friend do the driving.

I had to report back that I gave my 12 year old daughter this dilemna while driving her to school this morning. She pondered the problem for a moment and then gave the answer about giving the keys to the friend to drive the old lady to the hospital and staying behind with the love of her life. I was amazed that she came up with this!! Talk about from the mouths of babes!!:D A natural creative thinker, I guess. Obviously didn't get it from my side of the family!
